Fooled by a Mare
Tturns out Mares do turn on the lights.

My friend and I were in the highschool, found the ghost room, left the lights off - and the ghost turned it on. Didn't bother switching off any of the other lights that we switched on either.

When my connection DCed me, we decided to just call it with 2 pieces of evidence and do the next one. Sanity too high for yurei, Mare's don't turn on the lights - so my friend picked Phantom based on my guess.

Welp. Turns out it was a Mare that likes to chill in the light.

Today i got the same scenario, i couldnt see the the orb (he turned on the lights when i was in the van) in the camera but couldnt find the prints around with the UV, since the lights on/off gamepley of that ghost i figured that the prints should be there, if not the case im missing the orbs.

And luckly i was right indeed, strange behavior but fun enough

honestly i think mares turn on the lights the most. they do not like it when i try to check for ghost orbs.

I don't know where you got the info that mares don't turn on the lights. For your information. Jinns can turn off the breaker too, even though it negates their power. Your theory about Mares is like saying "oh, it's a Poltergeist!" after seeing that the ghost threw an object.

Widely held community beliefs you'll see often, even among level 700+ streamers that guess ghosts without any of the primary evidence pieces.

It logically would make sense, too, since activating a light is a bad idea for a mare and a jinn obviously wouldn't want to disable his own special ability.

Doesn't seem to be the case, though, which is regrettable. Using secondary clues to guess the nature of the ghost is fun, so it's a shame some of the logical conclusions don't pan out.

yeah, i'm hoping this is something that'll get fixed at some point. the ghosts have that lovely flavor text but when it comes down to it they all play basically the same and it's rather disappointing.

You can still tell which type of ghost you are dealing with based on its behaviour. Just don't try to guess based off of light switching or turning on/off the breaker. You have to look at different things like activity, how much it interacts with objects, how much is it showing itself etc.

Activity is unreliable. I've had shy demons that don't do a damn thing for a long time. I've had fingerprint ghosts that barely interact with anything.
Those are all not really things that allow definitive conclusions, since those are things all ghosts can do - and the degree to which they do is - beyond initial type values - randomized.

What's more helpful is stuff unique to ghosts. Poltergeists and their "throw all objects" skill as well as its throw force (-5,5) instead of the default (-2.5,2.5) is one, or shutting multiple doors at once. Banshees hunting above 65 average sanity. No ouija board sanity loss for an answered question for demons. Sharp sanity drops without any significant experiences in a short time points to yurei. No footsteps despite a salt ocean for Wraith. Jinn & Revenant hunting behaviour. Banshee's ignoring other hunting targets. Phantoms appearing as allies.

I just hope they make mares not switching lights on and jinns not switching the fuse box off fixed parts.
