It can take a few seconds to a minute to show up depending on how often the ghost passes it.
The devs changed this. The warble in the sound now happens at random instead of when the interaction happens.
Regarding the DOTS
It's an interaction... so at any point that the ghost is going to do a thing, triggering DOTS is one of the things that's on the list of possibilities.
To increase the chances of DOTS going off consider the following:
- Set it the center of the ghost room away from doors.
- If possible take any interactable items out of the room.
This limits the ghost's options for interactions so that when an interaction is called for its only option is DOTS.
You can do similar things to improve the chances of the book being used.
You only need the camera for the goryo. For all other DOTS ghosts, you can see the DOTS manifestation with your naked eyes.
For the Goryo, you need to be at least a room away and watching through a camera. Though it's easier to just set up and watch from truck for a suspected goryo rather than try to guestimate the distance you need to be at to see it in the house.
It's 3 years old post,
wait... I think not much have changed since then
