Hm, at first glance looks like a legitimate demo. I wonder why developers won't add it to Steam actually as a demo?

Well it's a prototype, not a demo. That version was originally made in 40 hours for a game jam, then since it was so well-received Hempuli decided to remake it as a much bigger commercial project.
