Why do people buy keys on the market?
Something I have never really understood; Why would anyone buy a key off the market for $2.85, when they can buy it in game for $2.50? Both transaction come right from your Steam Wallet anyway, so why would anyone spend and extra 15% more on the market?

It doesn't make sense to me. But maybe I am missing something? Currency differences? Maybe keys are more expensive in the European and Asian currencies, so buying North American bought keys is cheaper for them? Something like that.

Anyway, just curious about how this works.

I think it has to do with people who do not have the game but use them for trading. So they are unable to buy the keys in game, and instead buy them on the market. I have wondered about that too, and that is the best answer I have been able to come up with.

You're always able to buy them ingame if you have funds ;p

I think he means people who do not own CSGO, but still want to use the keys as currency in the Steam Market. Those people can't buy keys from the game if they do not own the game. Makes sense, I guess.

I'm just guessing but it could be an easy way to trade one type of key for another if the amount you recieve is equal to the cost of a different key.

Even people with csgo buy them cause they dont have to wait 1 week before trading. But now they will stop. The rule already aplies that you get 7week cd everytime.

Maybe just for convinience? It is easier to buy keys with only the Steam app launched than launching CSGO just to buy keys.

Why would people buy keys for $2.70
No one is asking why you would sell them for that but why buy?

It has to do with currency conversions. For some people it is cheaper to biy off of the market than to buy it in game.
How would that work I mean $1 is always going to be cheeper than $2 no matter what currancy your in (And 2.50 is always going to be cheeper that 2.85)

Yes but the key prices aren't affected by the currency exchange rate, they are at a set price. Awhile the market prices are affected by currency exchange rate. So the keys maybe fixed at 4r in CSGO while the market exchange rate makes them 3.5r
Hope the helps :)
*r* is not a currency i just used it for an example.

well batman, its simple.

While here in the UK its £1.60 in game and £1.80 on the market (meaning in game is still cheaper) in other countries there are cases when it may cost more than it does in the USA. For example, £1.60 is more than $2.50 as far as I can recall, or at least it was at some point or another.

In say... IDK, Japan, it might me something like 100 yen to get it from the market, but 120 from the in game store. I dont know for sure as I dont know anything about how other countries handle csgo prices, but they vary from country to country.

Basically, tl;dr, Currency values vary by country, prices do too.
