I thought the old version felt like you were just looking down a whole bunch of aisles, in both A bombsite, and B bombsite.
In A they had 6 aisles with a whole bunch of barrels in the way, and they were also super dark on the CT side, so you could hardly see anything.
But at least in the new version, they broke up the whole aisle/lane thing.
And it does look a little more balanced for T side.

BUT
FOR GOD SAKE MAKE THOSE ENTRANCES TO BOMBSITE BIGGER, TOO MANY TIGHT CORRIDORS
Now from the update site and what I saw in the video:
From the update site: "In addition to major gameplay adjustments to both bombsites, Train has seen a large number of smaller gameplay improvements. The map has been rebuilt from the ground up, and we look forward to seeing how players approach these gameplay changes over time."
- " To both shift attention toward the CT sniper position - and focus gameplay on the ground level, the T sniper position has been removed. " (A site)
Why? Because players were unexperienced and had no map knowledge it had to be re-worked ? Now it's so open CTs will just snipe from the back of the thrain cars close to their spawn. The connector (from T spawn) is more of a choke point than anything else and pass that car what's left to reach the site ? Nothing. No cover. The CTs will just pick them out.
The CT sniper position ? Since it's now smaller and the only sniper position it'll be expected to see somebody there so you'll have all everybody give a quick look or throw grenades there right away. The only moment I can see it being useful is in a bomb-down (A site) situation and only a few players are left alive. Otherwise it'll have no impact.
About B site: "B site has seen some changes as well, with the aim of making the site easier to prepare before attempting an attack. You can now throw flashbangs or smoke grenades into the site from the relative safety of the back tunnels. The site has also been tweaked to decrease the effectiveness of some frequently used CT positions. "
"Frequently used CT positions" . If you don't know them or don't didn't knew how to work pass them then what are you doing in competitive ? Going down the ramp towards the site, coming from the showers/back tunnels, you had 3 things to check. 1st, if there isn't a ct rushing straight up to you. 2nd, right behind the pillar and crouched under closest train car. 3rd, all the way back crouched behind the stairs for the A-B connector.
As you went down the ramp all you had to do was look in front of you and you would see them in that order. If you didn't feel safe you could smoke from the top and just cut right at the bottom and straight for the site and plant in 30 secs. Now you can just dump all kind of stuff and $$$ by that hole up in the wall.
So basically it's the same old map tweaked to give bad "normal" & unexperienced "knowledgeable" players a chance on T side.
There's a really big problem however that I feel is keeping this map from being good.
I've been running practice for a while to see if we can get any cool smokes down but I keep hitting invisible ceilings. The skybox is too low to get any proper smokes. The best ones I could find were smokes that cut off connector and block vision to ladder room from track/aisle 2 which allowed the T on ladder to push to e-box safely or push up right next to connector and get another angle at aisle 1 (depending on the smoke).
Useful, but not really at the same time since I ran into other issues that can't capitalize on this.
Any others were near impossible to do because the smokes ALWAYS hit SOMETHING whether it was a invisible ceiling, invisible walls, structures that jut out at high altitudes or that damn crane.
The crane in A is a really nice touch but also blocks a ton of smokes. Any attempt from the T side to aisle 2 or aisle 1 is met with resistance because of it. If they raised it a bit higher, or maybe lowered it, I think we could see some more possibilities.
I was able to get a smoke through the skylight for CT heaven but not the right one.
Instead of getting it through the one closer to connector, I got it through the skylight closer to the ladder. Not very helpful.
My other attempt to block off CT heaven from T main was to try and land a smoke on top of one the containers of the carriage you have to bomb. Once again, invisible ceiling gets in the way. So i tried some stupid pinball tricks with the crane only to have it fall JUST short of the containers and onto the floor.
There are invisible walls near the spawn that also prevent any attempt smoke off aisle 1 from T spawn or.... anywhere really.
One other thing I tried was to see if I could maybe smoke off the aisles by tossing a smoke over from t side ivy. Invisible walls and celings...
The last thing I have to try is boosting onto spots to see if that extra leverage on random areas can get me a decent angle but I'm going to have to say that the new de_train is inferior to the old de_train because so far, it's damn near impossible to smoke off a site as terrorists.
why?
