Overwatch bans/information
The Overwatch lets the CS:GO community regulate itself by allowing qualified and experienced members of the community (‘investigators‘) to review reports of disruptive behavior, determine whether those reports are valid, and apply temporary bans if appropriate
There are two type of Overwatch bans:
  • Minorly disruptive / moderate cooldown: This is a ban for ~1 month and is applied for griefers (intentionally ruining the game).
  • Majorly disruptive: Cheaters are usually permanently removed from the game.
If you suspect someone is cheating please report the suspected users in-game to Overwatch and on their Steam-profile.

For more information see the Overwatch FAQ and announcement.

Update: Since late 2016, griefing bans will become permanent on the second offense.

Does getting banned for griefing more than once affect you at all after it expires? Will it make future bans longer? Will I get a strike on my permanent record?

Not that I'd ever do anything like that. Just curious.

I'm not sure - I -think- I read somewhere repeated griefing can lead to a permanent ban but I haven't been able to confirm, or at least the intention was there. I'll ask someone in the Overwatch program.

/Edit:
In 2016 this was definitely added: http://blog.counter-strike.net/index.php/2016/10/16815/

As far as I know - no. Though, getting an ~30 days ban should make you reconsider further griefing from your side.

As far as I know it has always been a thing to prevent auto kick. Still waiting on Valve to fix it.
Otherwise +1 on this thread.

I have heard that players in Overwatch don't view higher ranked players then themselves, does anyone know if that is true or false?

I mean I know you are given a few control test demo's of pro players, but will a Nova 1 player ever overwatch a DMG or higher?

Well it depends on the answer to my question above, but if you are smurfing on a low ranked character and you have Nova ranked players Overwatching you, it seems possible that since your skill might be far above theirs that they might think you're hacking and convict you.

But then again Valve claims that most overwatch players have gotten the control test demo's of pro players correct.

Yes, this account is gold nova 1 or gold nova master I dont know because it got a "Global Cooldown" now I've been overwatched banned for no reason and I can't get unbanned this is so stupid valve has to fix their overwatch system for CS:GO. This is annoying getting banned for not hacking

What happens to those falsely banned for major disruptive. Is there a system to prove innocence?

False positives are lifted...that should go without saying.

There is a way to appeal your ban by contacting support, but you have to prove that you didn't cheat.

I imagine it is difficult to prove since Valve won't supply you with the demo evidence they used to convict you. I think that once you are convicted the demo they used should be sent to the banned player so they can use it in an argument against the ban. That is only fair.
