Why is the smurfing problem so bad in ranked?

I suspect it's because above 12k ranks are full of cheaters, hence those players who are skilled and had high ranks got deranked due to this problem. Or it could be that they were mean enough to decrease their own rank just so they can dominate in lower ranks.

They were a brand new account and level 3

Btw, the answer is pretty simple:
Because in CS:GO for the first 10 wins you could get LEM.
In CS2 for the first 2 wins you might get Silver.

This is how even ex GEs from CS:GO end in Silver ranks and make it kinda a mess.

So if the account literally owns 2 games on Steam, no profile picture, level 3 in-game and they completely ♥♥♥♥ on us it's because the game is letting them go through "placements" if those are basically silver lobbies?

I think maybe it's just a low silver elo problem or something but when there's a smurf on the enemy team you can 10000000% tell
