I'm having a specific problem with multisampling anti-aliasing mode
So I've edited the video.txt and videodefaults.txt (and set them to read only every time) and now all my video settings are set to auto... except multisampling anti-aliasing mode.
In video.txt i have "setauto.mat_antialias" set to 2 which should be 2X MSAA (which is what I play on) and I have "setting.mat_antialias" set to 2 in videodefaults.txt which should be 2X MSAA except when I open the game every other setting is correct but Multisampling anti-aliasing mode is defaulted to 8X MSAA.
I've been trying to figure this out for a while and I just don't know why its auto 8X MSAA can someone help?

Ok so semi complicated fix:
deleted the video.txt and videodefaults.txt files and reopened the game. I then changed the settings to what I wanted and went into the video.change(numbers) file that was created and copied the defaults settings and put it into videodefaults.txt and then saved it and changed both files to read only

Well in nvidia control panel MSAA is set to use global setting, which is off. I changed it around a bit but nothing changed

Try setting the videodefaults file to read only.
or add the value into the video.txt

Try to delete these files and verify game files in steam
