Disconnected to VAC server - with unRAID KVM
Reading here https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=2117-ILZV-2837 it says hypervisors cause problems. I am running PCI pass through on Windows 10 using unRAID / KVM as a hypervisor.

I just started having problems, anyone how to fix this?

Valve doesnt "support" virtual machines and thus we get disconnected. It seems that as of now we will simply not be able to play.

Thanks for the reply. I will try this soon (as no i've got a cooldown because of this fuzz). Does it work "fast" enough to rejoin competitive matches?
Why would you use a virtual machine with CS:GO?

I don't really use windows at all so this is a nice solution to keep things (read: gaming) seperated from the rest of my workflow. On the virtual machine I basically only have steam and teamspeak installed.
The performance hit is minimal as just like OP I pass a gpu to the virtual machine.

Because I built a bad ass machine. Why would I limit it to only run one system. I run a file share, a bunch of dockers (plex) and 3 machines off of the same hardware. Check out unraid. And F Steam and their crappy support.

Yea, get rid of the hypervisor. VAC does not like it. Hypervisors can be used to bypass VAC and cheat in VAC protected games, thus, they are not allowed and VAC will not get along with them.

No, stop trying to play VAC secure video games with it on VAC secure servers. What you just said is quite inflamatory compared to reality.

No point in arguing. VAC blocked it and you will not change that. Hypervisors can be used to cheat and bypass VAC. So, they are not allowed.

You are silly. VAC blocked, so what? You think they are better or smarter than everyone else? They can't figure out how to support hypervisors, the future, then that is their problem. This round of new CS:GO events, I skipped buying. I'd totally would have paid for it but since they would support my system they won't get my money. I spend 200 bucks a year with Steam but I will NOT buy anything from them again until they fix this issue.

No, its YOUR problem. VAC does not like hypervisors, end of story. YOU will not change that. Feel free to read the thread you were linked above.

There is no 'issue' to fix. Except for the fact that the actual issue HAS been fixed. You will not be allowed to play using a hypervisor. As I said, it can be used to cheat. So, there you go. :dealwithit:

EDIT...

http://store.steampowered.com/subscriber_agreement/

4. ONLINE CONDUCT, CHEATING AND ILLEGAL BEHAVIOR

You agree that you will not create Cheats or assist third parties in any way to create or use Cheats. You agree that you will not directly or indirectly disable, circumvent, or otherwise interfere with the operation of software designed to prevent or report the use of Cheats.

Hypervisors mess with VAC. Remember you agreed not to use anything that would do that ? So there you have it. Stop doing that, please.

And it has not changed since you last posted about it here.....

You can say what you want. When they don't get my money it is their problem. You can pull up whatever "rule" you want. No more money is going to steam, zero. However I did just renew my xbox live becuase of this and I have bought a PC game skipping steam.

I WILL NOT CHANGE. NO hyervisor NO money for steam. I don't need their games, they need my money though. I don't have a problem never buying from steam again. More will join me. And just to be clear, steam is big enough that they cant work with Linux KVM groups to address their issue. They are just too lazy to do it. Which is why I won't give them anymore money. I pay them for a gaming enverioment, that requires them to be on top of their game, not just taking the easy road.

Good. I am sure they don't want users like you and therefore, you won't be missed. Because as I said, hypervisors can be used to cheat. You don't want users thinking you are a cheater do you ? Of course not.

Feel free to do just that, as your games and money spent on Steam will be here waiting for you always, when you return. Just about everyone that claims "boycott" comes right back for more. Good luck to you always.

Insult me because I use VMs? I don't get it, do you own stock in steam or work for them? I don't understand why you have some much hate? Like what did a VM ever do to you?
tinyhitman Jun 11, 2017 @ 9:45am
The problem is that completely blocking all use of hypervisors is not a solution to the problem. Its like not allowing to use usb mice because they can be used to cheat. For this case, however, it is a minority that got hit (not many people run games like this, but you kinda do need you mouse...).

Its a shame because Valve should know it is a cat-and-mouse game, big players will circumvent and VAC will catch up again, in the meantime people like us can't play csgo (or other VAC games). Its a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ thing to do.

It will probably not matter for the coming years for consumers, but running everything on a hypervisor is probably the "future", and gaming will probably catch up. Take for example Nvidia GRID, it would mean that none of these games would be compatibly with VAC...
