Dominions 5

Demilich is a bit too good?
This guy has dominion 3 yet still pay for only 20points for new paths (and comes with death 3). You seem to get an aweful lot of stuff from for cheap for nearly all nations that's lucky to have him.

The problem with this guy is that he's expensive and has barely any slots. Yeah, he's a magic power house and will replace any rainbow mage for nations that have him, but besides that there are better options.

The demilich is basically immobile rainbow mage. It isn't as strong as other immobiles (It is not strong enough to perform monodrop tactics) but it does have better path variety.

Also, immobile barring teleportation magic.

Edit: Damn Jomon Ninjas.

Yea, he's probably not more powerful than most dom4 pretenders, but he makes nearly all rainbow pretenders look like jokes (unless you have a special bless in mind and won't use the D3 or have a nation-specific rainbow pretender).

Edit: I guess they can still walk and site search, something the lich can't do but still seems very niche.

He's quite strong for certain purposes, yes. One of the better available chassis.

He is a bit underpriced, but I don't like him. Just another immobile pretender and the statues are prettier.

An alternative to nerfing him might be to buff the Statue of the Underworld, the D3 (non-rainbow) immobile.

In general he's not the cheapest option for rainbow blesses unless you want high dominion. He's there more for high D blesses. He's perhaps a bit underpriced but not much so. It's a good thing to have X3 pretenders that aren't absurdly expensive (like the titans).

Demilich isn't really a good replacement for a rainbow. The point of rainbows is to start awake and turbocharge your early research, and then manual search to boost and diversify your gem income, and finally to ritual cast, forge, or bootstrap for your nation in a way your native mages can't; now in Dom 5 they also provide a ton of minor blesses. Demilich is only good for the last category, plus the Dom 5 bless addition.

What Demilich -is- the best at is phenominal scales with a good dom score and that late game ritual/forge/bootstrapping; they were also sometimes the best choice for a heavily offensive or heavily defensive double major bless, like F/D or W/D on the offense side and D/N or D/B on the defensive side, but those combinations weren't terribly popular. In Dom 5 this major(incarnate) bless aspect is only really cost effective for certain nations like LA C'tis or LA Agartha who can start making use of powerful sacred undead troops and thugs/SCs in the mid game, so you don't have to worry about the big cost of starting with an awake pretender that most incarnate bless nations want for expansion and first wars.

I think the thing that annoys me is that it's the most ubiquitous X3 immobile pretender, it's super cheap, and nearly everyone has him. I know that not all paths are supposed to be the same but when I'm experiementing with blesses it's annoying how often he's the cheapest option for the bless I want (so long as it includes any kind of death).

whats a rainbow pretender?
Nombrilist Dec 16, 2017 @ 5:58pm
One which has and/or can cheaply afford to have a whole bunch of paths at once. Typically, it means a pretender for whom extra paths cost 20 or 10.

The lich is about 80 points too cheap, yes.

You can get fear, awake, which doesn't go away when you die so long as you die on Elysium, with 81 points left for dom + scales + other magic, which is pretty much incomparable with anything else in the game.
Can someone explain how he is a good rainbow pretender when he will be bad at site searching? He cant move

He is good for bless effects that use many paths, since his extra path cost is only 20. He is good if you want large death bless + some minor blesses from other paths due to the cheap path cost. Of course it is bad for site searching (immobile) and it can't devastate armies using monodrop strategies (too weak chassis). However it is cheap option for good death bless, scales and item crafting.
