Lanka's pretty close. Beefy demon dudes who are into blood sacrifices.

don't think so most of the factions are based off of real world mythology not really high fantasy

Shinuyama has japanese goblins (bakemono), including size 3 ones who are also green.

Isn't Orcs part of Norse mythology? I could be wrong....

No, they are not. You might be thinking of trolls.

from wiki:
Earlier references to creatures etymologically or conceptually similar to orcs can be found in Anglo-Saxon sources; including Beowulf and 16th-century Italian folk tales, in particular those of Giambattista Basile.

Jotunheim's what you're looking at.

You'll note that this claim has no supporting source in the wikipedia article you quoted and could be as likely be the personal opinion of some random wiki contributor as anything. ;)

Orcs were 100% created by J R R Tolkein, and he described them as off-shoots of the goblin species. It's possible that Tolkein was influenced by the works of Beowulf and such, as they contained ambiguous "bogey-man" like monsters, but "Orcs" don't exist as we know them outside the works of fiction.

In Tolkien's works, "orc" is just a derivation of the Elvish (specifically Quenya?) word for "goblin" - they're not two different kinds. Even the Uruk-hai are occasionally referred to as goblins. Of course, while goblins exist in earlier folklore, they're generally not too similar to Tolkien's version.

Shinuyama is a goblin nation, of sorts. It has shamans, "big goblins" (closer to orcs in the modern sense of "big and beefy goblins") and such things. Of course, rather than axes, they prefer dai-katanas, wakizashis, yumi bows and yari longspears. Jotunheim has the vaetti goblins, but they're not the focus of the nation.

There also exist several mod nations featuring orcs. Strabo's and Alexsa's modpacks contain a WarCraft-inspired Horde and Dark Horde-like faction, respectively.

Expanding into what I said before, orcs were sorta another name of malevolent spirit sort of like wights. Since Jotunheim is also a nation inspired by Nordic myth and has draugs and goblins, it's about the closest to mytholgical orcs. If you wanna play orcs how they're portrayed in more modern fantasy media, Shinuyama is pretty much a nation of Japanese orcs ala Morrowind.

Are the Warhammer orc nations ported to Dom5 yet? Beyond that yes Shinuyama, Jotunheim and Lanka are your best bet for an orcish vibe. Though Abysia might fit as 'Fire Orcs' of sorts. They're single focussed on fire and blood, wear heavy armor and shun ranged weapons. Just big dudes that hit stuff while their mages do evil things.

I seem to remember one of the devs describing the design of Yomi as being partly inspired by Warhammer Orcs - barely controlled hordes of troops that flock to your war banners causing trouble and unrest wherever they go, lead by the biggest and strongest that knock the others into line.

So japanese are the closest thing to orcs :-----
Mormacil Jun 22, 2018 @ 2:41am
Jomon isn't but the closest to Tolkien like orcs would be the japanese MA faction. This game deals with real world mythologies and orcs as such don't exist in our mythology. As mentioned above beings that are somewhat like orcs exist and you could make something based on them that look like orcs but Tolkien already did that.

But mod nations exist if you need the itch scratched.
