The fear bless sucks (even for Kailasa) for what it costs...I have no idea why it's 10D rather 8 (maybe 9 but even that's pushing it).
fear alone isn't that great. but as an accompanment, it's really good. if you are using hordes of undead, and mixing in fear units, that can really have an effect. if you have troops with awe and use fear(which drops morale-and enemy units have to pass a morale check to attack awe units), it's really good.
Mac's stated strat is a very widespread attempt to stack reduced morale with attacks that constantly cause morale checks. again, attempting to synergistically use fear.
but i feel your pain. i've never been able to do enough damage to the enemy when i played asphodel either.
I think it makes sense, a being can be both awesome and terrifying. You're not only struck with awe at its majesty, but you're also pooping your pants in terror. You can't bring yourself to attack it, AND you are confronted with the urge to flee at the same time. An angel wearing a horror helmet.
