anyone ever get an SNES controller to work on this game?

Has anyone ever done a tier list of the characters, rating their effectiveness on their best roles? How would you rate them? Something like: Enda -> Healer, S (They can have more than one rate, if they have more than one role that stands out)

Apologies in advance for dimness. Was able to get Slack to move the switch at the beginning but am unable to get either of the two switches to move and am unable to use the jump skill to get the crew across the gap. So - I am not using the skills correctly but do not know what I am doing wrong. Hoping this list is still monitored. Thanks in advance...
