Thoughts on a Potential Sonic Adventure Remake?
I've heard recently that it's possible Sonic Adventure could be getting a remake and wanted to get some thoughts from fans of the Adventure series and to share mine.
If this game did get a remake, I hope it goes above and beyond a typical remastered work with updated textures and animations. This game needs more than that because if it were re-released as is with only updates to the textures and animations, it would fall shorter than when it did when this version was originally released in 2003 because of today's standards. What I believe Sonic Adventure needs is a massive overhaul encompassing the entire script, gameplay, major/well-known issues or bugs, and overall length.

I too want the Adventure formula to make a return someday, but this could go even further than just a remake/remaster, but also a brand new game with that style of gameplay. Maybe a bit of both - introduce a remake/remaster of this game (and maybe Adventure 2 as well) while improving upon the original's flaws, including the cutscene presentation (the story itself is awesome, but felt held back by 90's hardware) while also removing Big the Cat altogether.

At the same time though, the very thought of a remake/remaster is a very scary, optimistic one - these games, especially Adventure 2, are so good as they are that a potential remake could misunderstand the appeal of what made these games so good to so many players and make us wish we were all exposed to the originals instead, flaws and all.

I'm just a huge fan of 3D platformers in general and wish we got more of them, even if it means enhanced remakes of the first two Adventure games and maybe a new Adventure style game on top of that. But do these games need to be remade? As much potential as there is for a remake of a game like this, it could completely miss the mark especially considering the state Sonic Team has been in over the past few years...

A part of me doesn't want to see a remake because I don't think SEGA will do a good job reimagining the levels. Because of the game's lack of polish to some aspects, I expect a couple levels to be overhauled because they're too short or too easy.
Example one is Windy Valley beginning part. That's over in a blink and you don't get much of a chance to enjoy the scene and music which is a big shame.
Example two is Speed Highway part 3 because the street's too small and is over in a blink.
Example 3 is Chaos 4 boss because why the heck am I standing on water? That makes no sense!
Example 4 is the means to time travel back to the Echidna times cuz once you leave, you can't ever see the town ever again, it would be cool to have some exclusive levels or minigames there so you're not just running around at random.
I won't post everything I would like to see change because I'll be here all day. And change some story aspects like "cute couples get in free" to make more sense.

I would also expect controls like Sonic Adventure 2 because they've learned from the first game's mistakes so the game can have extra nice controls.
And I REALLY hope that they bring on a different voice actor for Sonic, the current guy's voice is so grating and annoying.
The levels can't be a simple 1080p version, they need to be spruced up, more detailed and fit in the modern era.
And finally, maybe include some cut BETA content like the cut Windy Valley part, the open Chao Garden or the Dragon boss for Sky Chase. It would be a nice to implement ideas that got left behind due to time constraints.

If there is a team of capable people, I wouldn't mind too much but after Sonic Forces, I don't trust SEGA to do it.

Yeah, this is bar none my biggest concern. The original developers that made the original games are long gone by now and they have some very different people in the studio that most likely have very different visions in mind for the series as a whole. Like I said before, considering Sonic Team's efforts over recent years, I find it hard to trust them to do a good job on a remake, even if the potential is very strong.

How about getting the remaster of Sonic Colours first?

There still has yet to be a Sonic/Tails/Knuckles 3D game. If there's going to be another Adventure-esque project, that's what I'd want it to manifest as.

I know its a long shot but what if that teaser trailer at the end of Sonic's 30th anniversary stream is a teaser for a remake of this game

That's a fan game. It doesn't count.
