One of The Best In the Series
Is it sad that this game is still much better than than the most recent games? You’d expect the games to improve, and SA2 is a big improvement, but SA1 is still one of the best to play in the series. A lot of replayability, full 3D levels, great music, a large attention to detail, and a story that connects it all well.

It feels much more complete with actual effort put behind it. Especially when we compare it with games like Forces, Boom, and Lost World

Its probably more fun than the original Colors, which had a lot of blocky 2D design instead of the proper 2D Sonic design. Not to mention barely any 3D
And a much better story with none of that cringy "kids humour" dialogue that plagued the console version and future games for that matter. I even thought the wisps were more fun to use in the DS game.
Ugh really wish kids content was more then just "haha funny joke" I liked how Mario and Luigi RPGs did it along with SA1 and 2 however i think the king of it really is the kirby (the wii and 3ds 2d classics not the switch one)series, they have that mix of simple gameplay thats easy for kids to understand and is fun nonetheless while also having much deeper and darker interior of a story its like layers of an onion, you got the gameplay on top the controls in the middle and the story and looks inside the center

Probably the best example of this for me has to be Paper Mario The Thousand Year Door. That game had so much humour and clever jokes that made me crack a smile, none of the jokes or dialogue felt childish and almost all of them fit the situation perfectly, all while being simultaneously the darkest, most serious game in the entire Mario franchise, especially during the climax.

Too bad Paper Mario might as well have died with Sticker Star.

At least there’s still Bug Fables

There's also Blinx 1+2. but we never got a new game since the second game and Microsoft let the trademark expire. I guess Sega could pick it up and bring the games to PC before working on a Blinx 3.

Let's not forget all three Mother games (Japanese versions with fan translations only. The censored "Earthbound" versions suck balls), Zelda: Triforce of the Gods on Super Famicom, right down to human sacrifices, Breath of the Wild, Rosetta/Roselina's story in Mario Galaxy 1 and the somewhat hidden story in Hot Lava.

The best examples however (I can't count Conker's Bad Fur Day as the idea is that the jokes -if any- can't be childish) have to be Psychonauts and A Hat in Time. I guess there's also Burning Rangers which incidentally has some similarities to SA2 story wise especially near the end. The final boss is effectively Gyiyg from Mother in 3D, with singing and/or praying replaced by shooting him with a plasma rifle intended for putting out fires (no, seriously).

Bayonetta 1 has a lot of nods to SA2, especially near the end. But that game is rated M and doesnt fit the rest of the topic.

In terms of Sega ports, Jet Set Radio Future really needs one

There's also the Ratchet and Clank games on PS2 which are basically 3D platformers with shooting elements. The sequels even added RPG elements complete with experience and level ups all without being limited to turn based combat and are essentially everything Super Paper Mario should've been.

Eh atleast Super wasnt stickers, also i find it depressing that they said it looked too much like the gamecube one and THEN changed it.

Makes me really miss hubs in other games like Spyro, Banjo, Mario 64 and Sunshine, or even in games like Diddy Kong Racing and CTR, it's not only fun to mess around in them before the next level, but also a great way to practice the controls and mechanics without the need for tutorials. Sonic is no exception either.

In terms of Sega ports, Jet Set Radio Future really needs one

I've barely played much of the first game on my Dreamcast (it's one of the games that came with it I don't plan to pawn off) but I should. It looks like "Tony Hawk with roller blades: Eastern San Andreas edition.

I also need to recommend Burning Rangers for Sega ports as well, preferably given the NiGHTS treatment. Also Shadow the Hedgehog (Xbox version but uncensored/uncut unlike the released game), the Saturn/original PC CD version of Sonic Flickies Island, Core Design's Dynamite Dux (with the Commadore version's lewd Easter Egg added in as a new game+ option for a laugh), Blam! Machinehead (also by the best British developer ever) and possibly Alex Kidd.

Its not really Tony Hawk since the focus of Jet Set Radio 1 is more on getting to the walls with enough spray cans while doing tricks along the way. Its weird, but fits in well with other Sega games that reward actual skill over simple completion.
