I doubt there's much of an appreciable difference to my eyes, other than textures and music length.
Even when I got the BetterSADX mod, I opted out of the Dreamcast conversion thing, as I wanted the Gamecube version, as that what's I played when I was younger.
Try the dreamcast conversion at least, and then uninstall it if you prefer the Gamecube one. The DCC mod does have an option to fix the water effects to a Gamecube style, though from comparison screenshots I've seen it's not perfect, though it does look nice and it complements the Dreamcast version well. Better than the cleaning fluid and plastic that stands for water in vanilla PC and Xbox.
I have screenshots of both dreamcast versions on my profile, and some of SA1 DCC with the gamecube water enabled if you'd like to see the differences.
I also recommend emulating the original Dreamcast game (1998 version) via Null DC like I have, or better yet, using a physical Dreamcast if you have one.
But I wouldn't recommend emulating the game unless you wanna see the original Chao system.
Damn. I do indeed use Null DC. That must explain the "breakdancing polygons" bug I encountered in my copies of SA1 1998 and SA1 International. I thought it was just an emulation bug for all Dreamcast virtual machines, but it must just be my one then.
You don't have to emulate SA1 anymore thanks to SA1 DCC restoring 1998's features and the DLC as well including the Retranslated mod but I still have the emulated one anyway as I sadly don't own my own Dreamcast. I don't mind the old chao system as it requires the VMU to work (I haven't found a way to emulate the DC VMU games) and I don't really care for the chao raising minigame anyway.
I still recommend emulating SA2 if nothing else because a Dreamcast Conversion mod for the PC version doesn't exist yet. I have screenshots of the DC game as well for differences.
Personally, I prefer the GC version of SA2 since that's what I played growing up (and also because I looked up how the DC Chao Garden system was like, and I personally like the GC version's better since the GBA functions aren't required unless you want Jewel chao or the Tails chao), but yeah. Best not to play SA2 outside of the GC version or an emulated Dreamcast version, because, DCC or not, SOMEONE decided it was a smart idea to lock the SA2B content behind a paid DLC wall on later ports and screw over anyone seeking to 100% the game.
True, but he is just replying to part of my last post about SA1 not needing emulation thanks to DCC, but not SA2 due to a DCC mod for it not existing yet, so his post still stands.
But honestly, as was pointed out, the only real reason you'd want to emulate the Dreamcast version of SA1, instead of using DCC with SADX, would be if you wanted the old version of the Chao system, instead of the version used in SA2B and SADX.
I emulated the 1998 DC version because I wanted the eye candy and the Casinopolis Hooker sign, and I didn't know about DCC until recently, when I first used it for the Retranslated mod. I still use the emulated version too because I wanted 1998 on an actual Dreamcast but I was never able to find a Dreamcast, and I may not have the space in my Xbox room for it. (Due to my Xbox One, Switch and my brother's Gamecube taking up the rest of the space)
Saying this, any SA1 port is ♥♥♥♥,but nostalgic AF because we all grew with it, and that's why I keep it in a soft spot in my heart. and one of the first fully 3D iteration of our (RIP) loved blue blur, which was supposed to be Sonic Xtreme in the Saturn, but cancelled and re-released a laughably remaster version of Sonic 3D... Sega wth.
SA2 can eat ♥♥♥♥♥. Can't believe bugs in SA2DC made it into Steam!
Are there bugs in SA2 DC? I've never seen them, except graphics glitches in Null DC when I was trying to get the game to work right in Widescreen (I did manage to do it at least). The PC version does have an annoying tram glitch in City Escape which is why I haven't reinstalled that version yet. The fact it still doesn't have a Dreamcast Conversion mod like SA1 does either certainly doesn't help.
