Shadows of Undrentide has a +5 sword for paladins, and +5 full plate with fire resist, I believe the base game has a scimitar with haste which is the best weapon if you use buffs like greater magic weapon

no, hordes of the underdark enhancements go higher than +5 but it also has a forge to upgrade gear . I would recommend finish shadows of undrentide , then using the same character do the original campaign , then do hordes of the underdark . just so you have everything

thats up to you, its not a canon storyline though, their based on two different heroes. just feels better to do both

Shadows of Undrentide (SoU) is meant for a new lvl 1 character, and Hordes of the Underdark (HotU) is meant to be continued with the character from SoU. The first, original campaign (OC) is separate from the two expansions. You can do as Yagger suggests and play all three with the same character but that's not what they expected you to do, so you will be overpowered.

It's definitely true. I've started SoU with a character saved after finishing the main campaign, and it was absolutely ridiculous how OP I was.

You don't really have unique uber gear in 3.x like you do in 2e and 5e. Because AB increases with level and AC doesn't, it's built into the system that enhancement bonuses will increase by 1 every 4 (AC matches full BAB progression) to 5 (AC matches medium BAB progression) levels. IIRC the NWN campaigns follow the +1 every 4 levels model, except for SoU which gets pretty silly in the 3rd chapter (leading to your PC losing all their equipment at the start of HotU.)

2e had the same AB/AC balance (well THAC0/AC) but the enemies didn't have the same stat bloat they do in 3.x.

5e went a completely different route, and kind of balanced everything without magic gear. With their bounded accuracy, a +3 weapon can be kind of game breaking.

3.x though really is a system where you're constantly on the look out for better gear, and always replacing the stuff you have. Just when you think you found an uber weapon, something better is waiting 3 or 4 encounters down the road.
