Purple Dragon Knight
Has anyone ever used this class in a serious manner? To me it just feels so entirely sub-par in this game and setting. Might as well play paladin, CoT or cleric rather than this class that has all its focus on once-per-day-buffs and requires some odd prerequisites. Ive not quite figured out why it was even added, to be honest.
Anyone shed some insight?

I doubt you'll find many that disagree with that. It was added at the very end of the Bioware era. The implementation is very niche in my opinion and was considered so even back then. The abilities just aren't that useful. On a more positive note, its possible to rescript its abilities entirely.

PDK was originally exclusive to the Wyvern Crown of Cormyr premium module. IIRC it was the final patch of pre-EE NWN that added most of the custom content from that module into the base game, including mounts and PDK. So there was never any real opportunity for Bioware to address balance issues with the class. (We were lucky to get that patch at all TBH, as the publisher was telling them to drop all work on NWN 1 and focus on NWN 2.)

Thats what I remember of it as well. The theme of the class seems to hurt it in some ways. From what I remember thats why its abilities were entirely scripted, so able to be changed - being it was added in a last couple patch fashion. Definitely a credit to Bioware in this instance.

So basically... PDK is just a waste of time unless it gets edited?

PDK is described as somekind of leader class... However, Paladin is better suited to be party leader. Though, RP Paladins could be really annoying. XD

Playing in a slower level progressing RP server I can say PDK is a pretty solid class to use because of its useful team abilities, especially Heroic Shield. But of course that's a specific scenario, the class probably wouldn't be that good in a single player campaign

Imma try bard/purple dragon knight. mostly because bard is my fav class and always liked the idea of the pdk. I know its not optimal but I play for fun. and the buff abilities for pdk are interesting

Vanilla PDK is a meme made only for RP purposes. There are some PW that make it interesting though, like ADOH.

PDK has some nice base abilities to rescript and reuse for PW's. It's a kickass class on Arelith
