Ok after reading up on parry briefly from other online sources it seems pretty involved if you take it.

I have low dex which is bad. My char does parry sometimes though. Essentially i think i have wasted points here.

OK. I don't feel like people are being helpful to you guys at all, with certain exceptions.

You cannot farm the adventures that come with the main game. Likewise crafting (and parry btw) is/are next to useless. Just play thru the story, read NWN wiki for how spells and feats and skills work to give yourself an understanding of the game mechanics and ...

I hope you get into the game and learn to love it as so many do.

Have fun :)

Not sure how crafting is useless? the npc crafting? that astral blade looks pretty good to me.

Can you explain parry because i am wondering the same. is it because it does nothing unless i active the mode?

I should have been clearer. The skills about crafting are useless. Any ingame/inmodule crafting tends to be a very good idea no matter what module/adventure you play.

Was that source the NWN wiki? It is the best source out there. It is not only the dex aspect tho.
Parry is fine so long as you and your opponent have 1 attack each. As you advance in level tho it becomes progressively useless.

You give up your attack for a parry chance and maybe get a riposte, no?

But as you get more attacks per round, and by level20 a standard fighter can have 4 (5 if hasted) the game mechanics work against the point of parrying. You give up all your attacks per round (APR) for a chance to parry 1 of the opponents. So if they have 4 APR You give up 4 attacks on him for a chance to parry 1 of theirs, leaving yourself unparried to 3 more attacks, while you do no damage bar the possible riposte. Much better to try to hit them 4 times no?

I did once build an extreme Dex character I called Miss Parry, who could survive, 1 on 1 for a long time using parry (and ofc all the good feats available to high Dex builds like epic dodge etc), but she was not someone who could beat someone PvP, more someone who would frustrate someone for a long time. She took a lot of work tho and was kind of built to just see if Parry could ever be viable in any form at high level. She might be available on the ECB, tho am not sure I ever did upload her to there.?

Anyway, don't invest in parry. (unless the module you are playing ends at low level). Also, don't worry if you are playing the OC and did invest in parry. It is not game breaking. Just don't use it when you see you have 2 or more attacks. The OC allows you to make mistakes in building.

Also, NWN wiki is your friend.

Have fun :)

still a lot to learn but for now i feel like have enough of the basics to keep my head above water.

Just keep practicing i guess because there is a lot of math involved that i need to learn.

*glances at Continual Flame* An arcane caster has, in universe, a ton of ways to get money that mundanes don't have access to, including making magical gear (TT, technically does exist in NWN too but never bothered to learn it) and selling it to adventurers. With a few levels of Sorcerer or Bard you can literally print money with buying slings or daggers and then enchanting them with a second level spell.

Does not work in NWN AFAIK. (Not least because there is no continual flame spell IIRC. A caster can add light but it is temporary.)
In modules that have light gems that can be added to weapons, by anyone, however, those can have the same effect.

Have fun :)
Got 259GP for gloves of discipline after I cast Continual Flame on it. Continual Flame is a Sorcer/Wizard 2nd lv spell

Buying magical equipment from shops is a trap. Don't do it!

You'll frequently find better stuff while looting dungeons, and then you lose about half of what you payed when you sell the item back. There is some unique gear that you can only find as rewards for certain quests that are really powerful.

In my playthrough of the Original Campaign, I mostly spent my gold on Scrolls, Wands and Potions that I needed for the harder parts of the game.

"I thought you said you were a Fighter!" - The dragon I cone of frosted to death, probably.

Funny things happen to balance when you just ignore the material components of spells. That 50 gp worth of ruby dust makes quite a difference to the economics.
Funny things also happen when you don't take into account that a blacksmith won't have access to 500 copies of the same item and won't have a use for the same or even be willing to buy them in the first place.

By the time you are halfway done through chapter 1 you will have more gold than you need. You will find good gear just by playing.
