Otherwise, anything in specific you'd like to know? I am not an expert, and am still learning a lot myself as I am relatively new, but I'd be glad to answer whatever I can, or even show you around if you'd like :)
Also, when in-game, be sure to use the -ama command, it'll show you all players willing to answer questions!
I just want to do something simplistic, really. Like a typical quest in WoW "Go outside of town and kill me 10 boars/wolves", I did some fooling around in Arelith, I did some quest about delivering parcels, I watched some video about doing writs now, got one about killing 15 spiders in the Library Archives, but I'm getting my ass kicked. I I've reached level 3 as Paladin/Cleric, I picked that in hopes that it will allow me to heal myself, but turns out Lay on Hands has a 10m cooldown which is crazy long. I tried to go to Bramble Wood to kill low level monsters for XP, but they don't give a lot and and the risk of dying is too big.
I really want to keep to myself and kill monsters for 1-2 days and level up my character until I lose interest, is Arelith even for me or is there another, more noob-friendly persistent world?
Maybe you could try a class with pets? ranger for example?
I've looted some trash from barrels, crates and corpses, but when I try to sell them, it says something like "this merchant doesn't buy this item". Is there something like a "fence" or a "pawnbroker" where I'm supposed to sell these things?
Also I think the game gave me a bow and arrows, I sold the bow, but when I try to sell the arrows, it says something like "you can't sell post items" and I'm not sure what that means.
Finally, does it come to a point where I can be high enough level that some mobs like those in Bramble forest or The Sewers will pose no threat to me or just negligible threat so I can kill them in more of a Diablo 2 style, gather their junk and sell it. I want to create some kind of a safe routine where I can feel like I'm doing something and it's working out.
Mobs will get easier over time, so I assume you can kill them for their loot, though I have not played the game in such a style.
Also, be sure to visit all the merchants with your loot. Armorers only buy armor, while jewelers will buy jewelry. Try to sell a ring to a Smith and he will probably not let you do so.
I hope these answers are helping :)
If you want to team up at some point, leave me a message, or friend me.

Arelith is pretty hard for a noobie, everything is stacked up against you, it's very challenging.
Arelith really is the roleplay, so getting into character, and roleplaying those actions with others is what makes the in game world what it is. It is not for everyone yes. And theres the Pgcc server where you can experiment with builds and talk ooc with others. As far as ig guidance? Talking with people. If your confused about something. Ask about it in character... not how do I make some coin but. "Greetings, do any of you know where I can make a bit a coin?",
"Where do I find work at?"
"My blade is dull as arse, how do I find a new one about here?"
The dms are very strict on the ooc communications, there is pming for that IG. But it has a very healthy and friendly community that are generally just looking for a reason to act out there characters so talk with them. If your having a hard time coming up with a character idea. A lot of people play with self insert characters if you don't want much depth to them. But if you enjoy playing dungeons and dragons on pen and paper. Chances are you will love Arelith.
If your looking for a more single solo Playstyle, it's probably not the game for you. But if your looking to understand the game mechanics before delving deeper I highly recommend the "Skal" start. Its a lower level area for players who are newer to the game and much less restricted. Also gives you a great opportunity to grind and level while meeting a few people you can have adventures with on the island in the future.
As for anything specific, the community is big on finding that stuff out in game. Just remember the DND basics of character knowledge vs player knowledge. Anything mechanical or game functions id be Happ to answer here though!
