Is it legal to play this game since it is not on disc?
I read the licensing agreement and it said that it cannot be distributed in this way it sounded like to me was they meant having it here wasn't legal. Can someone get back to me on this?

Yes, this is a legal version of the game. They likely said that in order to dissuade people from making and giving away pirated versions of the game.

Okay. I have the old version as well on disc. In other words the not enhanced version.

If my old hard drive gets too old to run it am I to understand that I cannot transfer it to a new hard drive? That would be horrible. Just curious.

transferring from a old drive to a new hard drive is OK. Making a copy for a friend is ILLEGAL

Even the old version (1.69 / Diamond / Platinum edition) can be transferred to a new hard drive. Just copy the entire NeverwinterNights folder from the old hard drive.

I hear that reinstalling 1.69 from CD may be more difficult (especially if you don't have a CD drive :steamsad:).

I cannot get the old discs to work and I have paid for the enhanced version as well.

You have to run installation from disks with windows 7or XP compatibility mode I think.

I am using windows 11. I think I will just agree with the licensing agreement and hope I don't get in trouble for putting it on my new computer. The other one doesn't work so it is probably okay. It did say one and only one hard drive. It didn't say two or three just one single hard drive. Unless I am unclear on the concept. If I am wrong about this the really should reword it. It should say only one copy per license and have it so it can only be run on just one computer. Not saying they want it to be run on only one hard drive. It really needs to be more clear.

Someone confused about an out-of-date and thus defunct licensing agreement.

NWN EE is a separate game, arguably, than the original by how many updates it's gotten from Beamdog.

Mate, use your noggin. Such policies as this are difficult if not impossible to enforce unless you become a major problem for them, i.e. you are deliberately trying to distribute copies of the game for free on a grand scale, which none of us are suggesting you do.

Go right ahead and use your copy of the game in whatever way you see fit, so long as it is for your own personal use. Nobody's gonna come get you for moving your installation of this game or any other around your own house.

It is a highly illegal thing to play this game without first owning a proper physical version on CD. If you do play this game without going through the proper verification procedures you're liable to see about ten years behind bars at best if you plead guilty. As well as a fine of 500 thousand dollars to Bioware in damages and losses.

Well, the good news....now we know its legal to play NWN on Steam, even tho its not "on a disc." But, now for the bad news, we need to be sure its legal to play all the other games we own on Steam, since we most lkely dont have the disc for those either.

being a gamer is WORK!!

Like Majorita said "use your noggin. ARE THERE ANY LAWSUITS AGAINST STEAM FOR COPYRIGHT VIOLATIONS?
