Question bout voice commands for For Companion Tomi
I use Tomi and the Tony K AI Mod and im playing the OC and Hotu expansion...Im at the beginning of OC and i just noticed certain Voice commands i must have over looked in the past or choose not use because maybe i thought they werent very good

What im wondering bout is are the folllowing commands any good for Tomi and how they work:
*Guard Me-I always use stand your ground......is guard me worth it
*Heal Me-Is this worth it...i cant get her to fire up

Any other commands i should be using
i have used handle trap and lock when i failed

Thanks in advance

They're on the radial menu, too.

I think Guard Me is supposed to make the companion attack your immediate opponent - a bit like how some other games allow the whole team to focus on one enemy. This seems to work up to a point, but, in my experience, the AI is capricious, quickly forcing the companion to attack a different enemy at the drop of a hat. Heck, even keeping the PC focussed on one enemy is a chore.

Attack Nearest is definitely worth using - the companion attacks the nearest enemy to them. You can set an ambush using Stand Your Ground, lure the enemy, then issue Attack Nearest.

If anything's not working, try removing Tony K.

Guard me should prevent your companion from rushing forward into melee as soon as an enemy is sighted. He SHOULD stay relatively close and only engage in combat when you do, or you are directly attacked. Very worth it.

Heal me only really functions if the companion has spells (I think) to heal you. I've never had a companion use heal kits or potions on me. I've also only had them use scrolls of raise or res VERY rarely, and I think that was scripted into the mod I was playing.

@sknymick your description of Guard Me sounds very like the corresponding companion dialogue option, but do either actually work?

I find companions in Guard Me mode still chase wild geese. The command can sometimes be used to pull them back alongside, but Follow seems to do that more reliably.

Yes, follow means they stick by your side, but they won't defend you (Peaceful follow). Guard me SHOULD keep them at your side until you are attacked. If that's by an archer, then they'll chase him down. I don't know. I've never disected their action scripts.. Might be interesting. I tend to use an AI tool (assigned to playertool 1). It gives direct commands, but might not be as comprehensive as voice commands.

@Proleric, when I said "Guard Me", I meant the VWF command (as opposed to VWE or VEE)

Also, I haven't played Vanilla NWN in so long.. Maybe I should try it again.

I think as soon as an enemy locks on to attack your PC then companions under guard me will head off to attack them, be it a melee or ranged attack. I think that's useful as it gives a little warning, especially if they have better spot/listen than you do and you haven't seen anything. It doesn't keep them by your side tho, only VEE/Follow does that IME.

If you are the Tank with Tomi as henchie (It's been 13 years since I played the OC with Tomi and I still remember how utterly annoying he was! Makes me shudder to think about it.) VWX while you charge in and VWE so he gets sneak attacking sounds like you have found the best tactic. (Actually, VWF/Guard would work better than VWE/Attack Nearest cos then Tomi will definitly be getting sneak attacks in. Attack nearest might mean he ends up toe to toe with someone which isn't ideal).

If you play as a caster tho, VWF/Guard works really well cos your familiar/summon/companion will rush in both warning you and drawing fire. As the enemy melee fighters converge on your little pixie etc VEE so she runs away and survives, and drop a pretty AoE spell on the enemy fighters who are now nicely grouped up together in one spot.

If you are using the pixie or someone with a good search then automatically typing the V and E of Follow when they run off is wise so there's just one keypress needed to save them if they spot a trap as they run in.

Heal me won't work with Tomi because he can't, but take the cleric (I forget her name) and it will. Oh, I suppose it might work if you give him some healing packs? You will have to try it out.

Have fun :)
