NVIDIA control panel -> 3D settings -> Program settings, then find or add NWN.
The exe should be in \SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Neverwinter Nights\bin\win32
I tried now to enable "frame limiter" option (even to fix the maximum frames to 55 instead of 60, etc.) and the heat seems to have been reduced :) I doesnt know that this option is the same that "VSYNC"? Maybe I will try also the option from NVidia panel as you say, because is still some weird heat, I think...
Thank you very much¡ :)
I can't say for sure either, but try it out and let us know. My GTX 1660 Ti card also runs extremely hot when playing NWN:EE. It makes the entire rig as hot as a fireplace, even with all 6 case fans at max speed.
Yes¡ I dont know nothing about these informatic things, but to me seems that the heat is too much for an old game like NWN (I played this the first time 20 years ago when the game comes out and no problem at all with a PC much worse than this). In the first moment I tested the thing not with the original campaigns but with a module of mine that is much more complex and heavy with graphics, and I thought that maybe was that... See my screenshots of the game and you will see what Im talking about... But no, its not a problem of my module.
For now, I check the first option (enable "frame limiter") and seems to work relatively well; the heat is lesser. I believe that all of this "problem" has to do with the maximum frames or something... (?)
I set mine to 60 otherwise the thing runs at like 1400fps in menus. I have mine set to 60 on all 3 settings.
Yeah, I think that is the same, because if you enable "frame limiter" and set the maximum frames a little lower (55 instead of 60, for example) the heat is reduced. Even the game feels faster? Hmm...
The problem has to do with the frames thing for sure. I dont know why...
Thanks... But the thing is that my card get hot ONLY with this game. With other games (better in graphics; Skyrim or Pillars of Eternity, for example) the heat are normal and fine... As I said, with frame limiter enabled, the heat is reduced, but not totally. Still more heat than Skyrim, for example. Hmmm... strange.
And from my observation the temperatures within NWN1 are 2 degrees above idle temperatures, sure results vary but if the temperature does indeed bother u you could adjust the fanprofile of your GPU.
Thank you very much. With the "frame limiter" enabled, the temperatures are not so high, and not bother me so much. Is only that I havent much idea of informatics, etc. and I am afraid that my graphic card burn or something, beacuse I feel this is a heat somewhat anomalous... However, maybe the temperatures are higher also because of the module Im working on, a lot of more complex in all senses than a normal mod... If you check my NWN EE screenshots page you will see what I am talking about :)
Still have a problem with the excesive heat in the graphic card and/or gpu. Is ONLY with this game and my PC is good, no problem with the fans, dust, etc. It runs games like Skyrim, Mass Effect 3, Grim Dawn, Pillars of Eternity, etc. with absolutely no heat problem at all. In the first time, with frame limiter enabled the heat seems to be reduced, but in a middle-long term the problem persists.
I try to lower ALL the graphics options (with the game looking like a cartoon) but still an enormous and weird amount of heat. I really dont understand... I read here and there and other people seems to have the same problem (and no clear solution), so maybe is a problem with the optimization of the game, with the cores of the cpu (??¡¡?). I dont know...
The enormous heat begin slowly, but with 5 or 10 minutes of playing it becomes really high, and I have the sensation that it grows higher and higher the longer you play. Afraid that my graphic card or gpu will burn out and my pc will break, I never play more than 20 minutes along. I have to quit to the desktop and wait until the temperature slowly decreases.
I think that this is a real problem... And I love this game very much, the EE edition is very cool (I am a module creator, and I`been playing NWN since the original release comes out, 20 years ago. Only the last year I left the 1.69 version and comes to EE, that is a lot better for building). But with the heat problem I cannot play... I have fear of my card o gpu burn in a moment or another... For example; my PC is a laptop, and when I am playing controlling the camera with WASD, the heat is so much in that area (the graphic card I guess) that my fingertips feels like I am caresing a cup of boiling water...
Sorry, it seems I`m whining (and maybe I am), but with this problem the game is nearly unplayable... But the game itself runs ok, with no lag, etc. Please, some help? Any word from developers?
Thanks and sorry for bother...
Are you using AMD or NVIDIA? Do you have their dedicated software for controlling performance (amd adrenaline VS nvidia panel)? When I had GTX 750ti with NVIDIA, everything was running optimally for me. But now I have RADEON RX 6500 XT with AMD adrenaline and it's kinda ♥♥♥♥, It doesn't work properly, I need to use RivaTunerStatisticsServer to manually limit FPS for every application, especially if it's windowed game, as AMD settings don't apply for applications that aren't fullscreen.
My suggestion would be to download rivetuner and msi afterburner to see how much fps you have in game (or some other software).
Here's a video regarding another game, but you can do the same things and they will apply to NWN as well to show and limit fps.

2:47 - 5:30 just select nwmain.exe when pressing "ADD" while holding ctrl instead of RED-Win64-Shipping.exe
If nothing helps, might just need a better cooling system. Might be a hardware issue. Do you have this heating problem from 00's-10's games like skyrim?
In C:\Users\xxx\Documents\Neverwinter Nights, you have a file named settings, open it with wordpad, under :
[graphics.video]
anti-aliasing-mode = 1
refresh-rate = 59
[graphics.video.anisotropic-filtering]
enabled = false
Do you have
[graphics.video.vsync]
enabled = true
?
If no, add it, save and try, for me if forces VSync.
