Blackguard Bug ?
Hi,
I created a rogue and levelled up, I am now of evil alignment, I have 14 strength, "cleave", an attack bonus of +6 without my weapons drawn and around 8 ranks in the ability "Hide" so...
Why can't I become a blackguard ???
I also tried various evil alignments and starting from a warrior class but it didn't work.
I have the assassin class highlighted but not blackguard even though I think I checked all the requirements. Is it a bug or did I miss something ?

You should be able to, unless you are trying to take Blacjguard on the same level as meeting one of the requirements. IIRC, you need the requirements to be met before going to level up.

Could that explain it? If so, next level you'll be fine.

Try this. In the chatbar type:
## DebugMode 1
## GiveLevel
## DebugMode 0

If you gained a level then I amazingly remembered the commands after too many years away, and if you can take Blackguard now, the above was the issue.

Have fun :)

You say your attack bonus is +6 without weapons drawn, but I am going to assume that's accounting for your 14 strength adding a +2, thus making your BASE attack bonus only +4. Black Guard requires you to have a base attack bonus of +6, placing you 2-3 levels behind the required attack bonus if you're building a straight rogue.

^^ That's a good answer!

Minimum lvl using rogue would be lvl 9
Minimum lvl using fighter would be lvl 7

Have fun :)

The requirements to be a Blackguard need changing. Non-rogues arn't going to use Hide, what a waste of points. How tedious.

Hm... Good point o.O
Especially since they're anti-paladins, they should be more warrior-like I guess...

They do get Sneak Attack though, so you could see why Hide may be a class thing. Not saying its right, but there was a thinking behind it that the class would be around those lines back in PnP. Infact, the PnP version has the Hide requirement too: http://www.d20srd.org/srd/prestigeClasses/blackguard.htm

(3.5e, but it's the same for 3e).

That's just it, though--they're "anti-paladins". They stand for everything a paladin stands against. A paladin stands up and faces you head-on. A paladin fights you honorably. A paladin doesn't engage in deception*. It only stands to reason, then, that their antithesis would but quite content to sneak up behind their enemy and shank one or two of them with a poisoned blade before the battle had even begun.

*Well, the young ones don't. You don't live to become an old paladin without learning a little bit of flexiblity.

Yeah, but assassins, shadowdancers and rogues already do that.
Maybe being anti-paladin would mean being the proud boastful and preachy warrior of the dark side...? I mostly play rogues so this had never crossed my mind...

Best to start as Fighter for a Blackguard for the extra feats in the early levels... Rogue should always be a dump skill point class, mainly for Tumble but Hide as well in the case of Blackguard (unless going Shadow Dancer ect). Though Bard is also a good choice for Blackguard.

Below answered your problem though.
