Why it's too hard? Arelith is the most MMORPG in NWN and i like the concept, what, for now i want to know, is:
(i) can i improve the loading times?
(ii) is there any way to heal in the wilds or force rest above 50% rest?
I see, i'm kinda of a solo player, so i can go and leave whenever i want in the game, to not affect my rl. Anyway, this bandage thing, is this healing kits?
Yeah. They are literally called bandages. You have first aid skill, which affect how effectively you can use them.
Arelith have or used to have at least a rule "Real Life comes first." Nobody really minds if someone need to go.
pretty much all of them universally restrict resting to specific locations or a long cooldown outside of Safe Zones.
healing will vary a lot more, though it's not uncommon to have health regain on resting be the same as P&P (1 hp per level), instead of the full refill it is in normal NWN, the effects of the healing skill can also vary considerably (some only boost the effectiveness of rest-hp gain instead of healing hp directly in addition to attempting to treat disease/poison conditions). Availability of potions will vary heavily by setting, some are a bit more free about it, others are more stingy.
I already got myself to understand the game better, my biggest issue with Arelith now is his thousand commands options that you either need to use or will have a problem.
I read a lot before i started in Arelith and the first thing i dide was type -adventure to get more XP in long term, but there's a lot of other commands that are apparently needed to play well the game. For example, i know that -ama show whoever is avaliable to explain things but i don't know how to pm another player.
Other issues i find problematic in Arelith are the knowledge of how the system works. I meant:
- craft apparently is pretty important but i have zero idea in how to use it.
- miscellaneous items can't be sold everywhere (and the place most of them can pay so low that is outrageously), but the game don't make it easy to know where to sell things.
- quests aren't intuitive. I got one to clear a xvart cave that take the hell out of my skin, not a quest adequate for my level for sure (but i think the system said it is).
- Gear apparently has charges and break, but until now i don't know how to deal with it and nothing indicate this issue to me besides my presumption. When i saw a charge from a bracer without any usable skill being lowered during a fight i presumed as much.
The world is pretty interesting, but i think too many ppl are long old players there that already know what is there to know and thus i found it a bit unwelcoming for a newbie (not the community, everyone is pretty nice and helpful, i meant the system of that world). Also, i found my character extremly weak but may just be me playing bad, but i really got he chills thinking in how someone can play as an outcast with low level and no access to merchants.
Edit: also, the constant reset of the city map is a pain in the a$$.
Expertise an Improved Expertise feats are mandatory on most of the builds! (more armor class for PVE)
I'm also playing Ravenloft but I'm finding it difficult to navigate around some of the more complex elements and lore (partly because I've been away from D&D gaming so long and I'm a bit more casual these days). You need to do a fair bit of reading and research to avoid annoying people inadvertently.
I suspect there are a load of great servers that people are missing out on because the default approach is to look at what's busiest. :)
Already am integrating in the community and learning the game better. Loading time is stiill an issue, but otherwise i'm ok.
Good to hear :)
I honestly can't believe that in 20 years, nothing has really eclipsed this game in what it offers. I mean, D:OS2 and Solasta are good but don't do the same things.
Have fun
Amia was a very popular casuallish server back in time, with very relaxed and great community.
