Remove the CD Key requirement for LAN play?

I own the game on GOG, and I'm still annoyed that there are CD keys at all (as in not DRM-Free) but that's another issue. The main issue here is that requiring unique CD keys for LAN means that one day, multiplayer will be inaccessible. There are more than a few old PC games I have that I can't play multiplayer on anymore, because I only have one copy, and therefore, only one CD key. It's a shame that devs still impose DRMs that create an expiration date on their games.
If one of the devs sees this post, please consider removing the CD key requirement for LAN multiplayer!

it is odd that the game still uses cd keys at all. steam is drm enough. maybe they left them in for technical reasons?
