Here is how:
tilde ~ to bring up console
Debugmode 1
(all commands case sensitive, but to save time if you forget the exact casing, typing captial D, than pressing tab will autocomplete the command, than space and 1 and done)
Now on the keyboard, press period (.) , this will bring up a nice debug menu that lets you do a lot of stuff. Click creatures to show all the npcs/monsters in the area, and select the guy, than press either toggle invulnerability or toggle immortality.
Invuln sets the plot flag, so they can take no damage ever
Immortality is a little nicer for normal play since they can still take full damage, but can never go below 1hp, so can't die. (So you can at least sort of roleplay your trying to heal him)
Other handy secrets if you get stuck:
The plus key (+) on the numpad lets you teleport to where your mouse cursor is. So if the module author screwed up and theres a plot locked door that a key failed to drop for, you can teleport past it. (If it's a transition door, well not so much, thats more complex to fix)
You can also toggle this anytime you want, so if the story of that modules requires him to die later, you can unset it.
If you wanna get really technical, you could download lilith, which is an ingame super utility that lets you change everything about NPC's. But its complex to install and use so probably best to just use my first suggestion. But yea if you learn how to use it, you can essentially use it to fix any module issues on the fly. I've played plenty of super buggy modules and still completed them thanks to it.
But yea its hard to get it to work, some ppl report the latest version on the vault works for them, but for me I had to dig up an old version and mess with it a bunch to get it to work.
