Is there a way to replace a portrait/character model on an already saved/established character?
I am curious if there is a way to replace one portrait for another, on an already saved/established character. I just subscribed to a few of these Workshop portrait packs and they look fantastic, who ever actually created the portraits themselves did wonderful work, as well as the person either putting them into a collaboration or at least putting them in the Workshop.

However I already have a character in game and although not very far into it, I'd hate to delete her just to get the new portrait. Her experiences and journey, even if just in OG so far, has already put a spell on me... And yet I initially chose the portrait I had, because it was really the only closest fitting one at the time.

However I have also been thinking later on down the road for RP purposes, to be able to change the portrait when major events occur. Namely aging. Losing an eye in battle. Changing a profession, etc. It would be nice to change the portrait and even the character model from time to time, to fit the game or just to spice things up if you keep playing the same one for so long.

Long story short, is there a way to change the the portrait of a saved or established character? Thank you.

You will have to follow the instructions carefully tho.
Also, for stuff like this
...
Leto
(can a friend do the link stuff? Life is a little tough right now...

Have fun:)

There might be other ways, too, but It depends on what portrait you picked, and I'm not sure whether you subscribing to Workshop items complicates things or not. The Workshop's click-and-play approach seems practical, but IMO it's actually better to download mods from the NW Vault page and install them manually.

Custom portraits are usually stored on your harddisk in /Documents/Neverwinter Nights/portraits. Each portrait consists of 5 images in different sizes (huge, large, medium, small, and tiny). They can have any name but the name needs to be the same for all 5, apart from ending in _H, _L, _M, _S, and _T.

To learn more about portraits, and even about creating your own ones, check out this guide:

Now ...

a) if your current portrait is a custom portrait already, and not one that came with the game, you might be able to find it in the portraits folder mentioned above, and you might be able to identify the right files with the help of an image viewer. In that case, switching portraits might be as easy as replacing the image files of your old portrait with the image files of the new portrait you want, by changing the file names of the latter to the file names of the former (make a backup first).

b) the Customize Character Override Hak (CCOH) mod also allows you to cycle through portraits and choose new ones, but in my experience it does not work that well. For me it often only cycles through the default images, not the custom ones, or it encounters some issue and turns your portrait fully black or white. But it might be worth a try, as an alternative to the other two options above (abort the process, if you don't manage to find your portrait that way).

I would think that simply creating a portrait and naming it the same as one in the directory would work if you slapped it in the override folder. I could be mistaken though (more savy with NWN2)
