Lost Item: Penhold Staff]

I am not sure what happened. The right mouse clicking confuses me as the radial menu is sort of cluttered and not always centered and hard to see from the background inventory screen. Not sure what happened. I was in the middle of talking to Aribeth I think, probably seeing the price she was going to pay me which was about 50 gold pieces more than the nearest merchant in the town center, the one with the locked forge in the back room to make magical weapons.

So I am not sure if I tried to cast on her with one of the magic charges by mistake. I thought maybe I dropped it, although it appears if it was equipped, you can not actually drop. I checked the floor, but nothing was showing. Since I was already at the temple, I figured I would check the divining pool, since it mentions something about recovering lost items. But it was not there. Perhaps it was under magic items and not weapons and I did check that tab?

So it just vanished forever? Obviously I can just load my last save, but I would like to know what happened, so I can avoid it in the future. Thank you.

I don't know the answer, but I have a better suggestion: Reload and instead of avoiding it, explicitly try to make it vanish again, by retracing your steps, recreating what you could possibly have done to cause the issue. Maybe you can find out yourself.

Also check the description on the staff. Does it say anything about charges or single use only? Is it possible the staff is meant to vanish after one use? Experiment a bit with it.

IIRC you can definitely drop stuff that you have equipped, too, and the divining pool doesn't have category tabs like weapons and magic items. You can press TAB to highlight NPCs, usable objects and - I think - stuff lying around on the floor.

Lost Item means just that. You no longer have that item. You ether find another one or live without.

I tried to recreate it, but could not. I just reloaded the save. That staff in question had 50 charges and I was only holding it for a moment.
