The variety of servers is also mostly gone. The popular ones are mainly hardcore roleplay servers (in fact, all 8 of the servers I just mentioned are all roleplay). But even those I wouldn't consider to have a healthy population; the #1 on the list has only 13 people!
Do you know what is a popular server? Higher Ground. It didn't make the transition to EE (for reasons I don't know), and last I checked it was when EE first came out; it was running two HUNDRED people on at the same time. I don't know what it is now, but afaik its still up and running... just not with EE.
Sorry, as much as I wanted EE to succeed, it just isn't. There is no huge influx of players and new servers. Most of the servers we've got are pre-existing ones, and over time they slowly dwindle until they have only their core players left. EE didn't do much to improve that.
Those hardcore Roleplay PWs also bring in tons of players. They have their active times and low times, but i've seen Arelith and Ravenloft with 50+ players from time to time. You just caught the server list at a bad time when a patch just came out that greyed out the most populated EE servers.
This is getting kinda off-topic anyway. I suppose there's no PRC PWs up then, whether 1.69 or EE?
Nope, no server running PRC. They could barely even get it to work with the singleplayer components, and from what I understand its a ridiculously complicated process to do it. I seem to recall only ever seeing one PRC server pre-EE to begin with.
You might want to try Nordock Martial Age or Legends of Chance. Both have some really crazy features; NMA has 120 levels and custom classes earned through taking a specific combination of classes. LOC has "god levels" to continue progression above level 40, custom weaponry (not sure if thats reintroduced in the EE version yet), and some really REALLY crazy subraces.
Other than that, most servers are of the "don't run use walk because IMMERSION"-level of roleplay. :eyeroll:
oh yeah I like Nordock. Probably one of the better action servers out there.
Also, if you're looking for an RP server that doesn't get ridiculous with it, try Blackstone Keep. It's RP-lite, meaning RP is suggested but you don't have to if you don't want to.
Don't know why they decided to make it appear password protected, it's probably why I've only seen a couple of players at best. Needs some advertising.
Is anyone running/interested in running a action/pvp/pve type PRC server?
That said, there are certainly a number of servers with lots of added content in terms of new classes, feats, spells, etc, that are worth checking out if you like lots of variety.
