Sorry, I find these instructions confusing.
I open a save-file "000005 - Edit" and there is a "player.bic" file which Leto can edit.
But your instruction of how to 'save new' file is the problem, the "From List in file" part.
Screen shots would help.
What's wrong?
When using Leto, it is important to know and understand the exact steps.
1. Go to Menu > File > Open >
(This will give you a File Explorer interface.)
2. Navigate to your saved game folder (e.g. Neverwinter/saves/savedgamename).
3. Opening the saved game folder, you will see "player.bic." This is a BIC file, but not the file you want to edit. Going to the bottom of the interface, you will change the "Files of type:" field from "ITP files" to "From List in file." When you do that, you will see a xxxxxx, sav file. Select that file and click on "Open."
4. You should now see an interface to "Select resource." Scroll down to the bottom to find the resource "Module" of type "IFO." (It is probably the last item in the list.) Select it.
5. You will now see a branching list which includes the name of your character, and underneath it is your henchman. Since you are editing your character, select your character and click on OK.
6. You are now looking at your character's information. Make whatever edits you desire.
7. To save your editing, return to Menu > File > Save As >
For the "Files of type" field, you are going to select "Into List from file." Once again, the xxxxxx, sav file will now be visible. Select it and click on "Save." You will be given a warning prompt (that you might bork your save file). Click "Yes" to continue saving if you have faith in your editing skills.
9. You will see the "Select Resources" dialog, again. Scroll to the bottom of the list to find the "Module" resource of type "IFO." Select it and click "OK."
10. Here is that branching interface, again. Select the character you just recently edited and click on "OK." It will take a short amount of time for Leto to save the data back into the list.
Side Note: Leto apparently no longer allow the editing of items/inventory using the default editor. That may be due to Beamdog using a different method to track items. The Advanced Editor still allows you to dig deep into game variables, but it is unsurprisingly complicated and not recommended for the average person.
