Saved game dissapeared
I just lost my save data- spend a few days getting to chapter 3! I went to save the game and then the game froze and crashed. When I logged back in my save and character wasn't there. Any insight or help I could get? Or am I pretty much out of luck?

Use distinct saves instead of just quick- and autosave. The game overwrites them and if it crashes, both are gone. Better save to a new save than being sorry.

No, you are out of luck. The data is gone.

Thank you. Bummer, but that's life. What is a distinctive save?

Saving to a new file instead of overwriting the last file.

I'm sorry to hear that, I was hoping the issue had been fixed with the last patch somehow, as it hasn't happened again to me in quite a while now, but I did experience it with the EE a few times before (and it never happened to me in the three years that I played through countless modules with NWN Diamond).

As Ettanin said, to be safe, save often, in different slots, so that if you lose the current save due to a crash you can fall back to another without losing too much progress.

Sure would be nice if cloud saves were added. Until then, back up early and often.

Fortunately, this doesn't happen often, but personally I use 3 rolling save files (save1, save2, save3) in rotation, plus a different set of rolling saves for lengthy fights, plus uniquely named saves at major milestones in the game.

Not only are saves occasionally destroyed by crashes, it's all too easy to keep overwriting saves, then realise that you've made a really bad decision or lost an important item. Always good to be able to revert to a known point in the game.

Thanks everyone for the help! I havent played NVN in years and never had problems with Diamond. I'll definitely be utilizing multiple save files now.
