People forget that the rights to neverwinter 2 as a D&D work belong to the wizard of the coast, and then perhaps the obisidian has some right to the game.
Even so, I believe that if the beamdog wants to do it, they would, or would have done it already. Why do you ask me...
I believe that they are not very interested in this at least for now, as it is not so difficult to "remaster" the 2, since it is younger and does not need as much polish as the 1.
As we all know the work of remaster, even more "basic" as beamdog has done, at least at launch, is very economical for them, as it does not require much change in the game.
It is not like doing something from scratch.
Soon, I hope, but not for now.
Possibility always exists.
Finally, the law of trailers does not stick.
Since the first game was from bioware, if it were so it wouldn't have come out on the beamdog. People have to improve the arguments, and stop writing nonsense.
Oh, it does need a lot more polish than 1, IMO, but most of its issues lie within the engine and won't be easy to fix at all, especially not for people who weren't involved in creating it (I believe quite a few people working on NWN EE already had a connection with working on the original NWN back in the days).
Anyway, I don't have any links at the moment, but IIRC Beamdog officials have already stated that there are no plans for remastering NWN2 at the moment, more than one time.
It will probably never return to Steam because of licensing issues with Atari, who owns the license to publish NWN2. NWN2 was removed from Steam in 2013 a couple months after Atari declared bankruptcy. Obviously no one here is privy to exactly what happened but I would suspect that Steam removed NWN2 for Atari's failure to pay something in regards to hosting it. Throughout 2013 and continuing through 2018 Atari sold off a large portion of its portfolio to various other companies. NWN2 was not part of that sale, possibly because no one was interested in buying it.
In 2015 Atari started a turnaround strategy focused on re-releasing Atari's catalog of games, focusing most heavily on its most traditional franchises and most popular properties (things like Roller Coaster Tycoon and Lunar Lander).
In all likelihood NWN2 has been completely forgotten by its owner, Atari. They clearly have no interest in reviving the Steam storefront for the game meaning that whatever effort or cost that would require of them isn't worth whatever sales they would expect to make off of NWN2 Platinum being on Steam. They might be receptive to another company purchasing the publishing license but I don't know if that would include a license to develop a new version of the game (which might still be held by Obsidian) or just to publish the existing NWN2 Platinum.
Right now your best bet for getting a NWN2 remake is to wait for Ferret Baudoin and J.E. Sawyer to both kick the bucket and then wait 70 years for the copyright to expire.
Was my first thought as well, but look closely, Daynox is not talking about buying the original in the last sentence but about hopes for a remake.
if you want it to be on steam in the future you need to get rid of all the lawyers.

I doubt it: not any time soon at least. Neverwinter Nights: Enhanced Edition still needs a lot of work. <_<'
Even when NWN:EE is done, NWN2:EE really depends on Trent Oster's preference, I think.
