Best LoTR servers

Hi, back in the day when Gamespy was a thing, there were a couple of good LoTR servers I used to play, one was MERP UK... I notice there's a few LoTR servers in the server list, though on the two occasions I've looked there's not been many players on any of them, so I'm just wondering what is the best and most active LoTR server currently available?

Hi Sam, there isn't one really, the 3 you might see have huge inherent issues, Winters needs a player base to get things moving, as solo ing without top level equipment is really hard. Not a fun place.

Howards Classic isn't under development and also has the same issue as Winters, though not as exagerated.

Homers is under dev, and is fairly new in the NWN EE list and is the most faverable of the 3 at the moment.

Never played MERP UK, so I can't tell you haw similer youl find the experience.

Thanks for that. I'll keep an eye on Homers, hopefully in time it'll increase in it's player base...

Are there any decent, active servers you recommend in the mean time? I notice there's one server which the couple of times I've checked seems to have 40+ players.

It was so much fun playing LOTR inspired modules on NWN long before it was enhanced. Now that I've just got the whole set on sale, I would love to adventure in the lands of Middle-Earth as a Dwarven priest of Aule again, even better to do so this time with others.

Since you said Homers is in development, and as such probably needs testers, I tried going there first but could not find any servers similar to that name. I would be glad to help with testing but until it appears on the list you will find me on Howards Winter Enhanced LOTR server.

If there is anyone on Howards LOTR server, or any another Middle-Earth inspired server that shows promise, let me know and we can try adventuring together weekly. I will have time after the holidays.

You're better off avoiding potm, the dev team seems to have an issue with real rp when it comes tot heir events and forcing their outcomes on players, which include mutilation, rape, and perma death. This also doesn't account for their treatment of their "favorites" group, which can get away with any and everything with out consequences.
They say they like to hear players out, but when some one brings up any dm who themselves are breaking the rules or abusing their powers they are either banned from both their games and forums, or the dev/dm teams makes their lives a living hell in game until they quit. It's been this way for many years now. Honestly, the server seems to be run by communists, as they don't like others opinions let alone some one bring up when they mess up.

In 2007 I played on an Neverwinter Nights (the original, my version is v8109 - plays on Windows 10 v1803, that suprised me) module server called "LOTR Version 8 Enhanced Expanded". It used the Neverwinter Tools et and was freaking huge!

The website *was* www.caplette.com/lotr. That address is 404 now. This was an awesome server back in "the day". It even allowed you to create new level 1 characters or advance to create powerful level 40+ characters.

Anyhoo, as I mentioned that page is gone and URL belongs to a tech company now (or maybe it always was?). It was cool how the Neverwinter Toolset made it possible to re-create the LOTR world. There were a lot of LOTR themed servers, as I recall. Most relied, as did this one, on HAK PAKS, and CEP (the Community Expansion Project?).

So guys. Are there any worthwile LOTR servers atm? Cause lobby only shows me two. One with 255 slots(winters LOTR) and other one lands of Arda with max 20 slots. Would appreciate any info.

Slightly off topic, did anyone used to play on Elronds World? A LOTR based server, it had incredible guild pvp and was run by a dude called DM spike.

I can recommend Lands of Arda and LOTR Gondor vs Mordor for some awsome LOTR servers!

I have been on Lands of Arda for about 2 months now. It has a small but dedicated group of players. I have the same login on the server so say hi if you see me.

I used to play Howard’s LOTR way back on the day... it’s been revamped as Winters LOTR with a ton of new content. There’s about 10 or so players and the DM is very engaged and generous in offering help and advice. It’s on the NWN server as Howard’s LOTR in case your interested.

Think if the LOTR servers could merge their assets and player base. That would make for a splendid setting. I used to play on Elrond´s world back in 2004. It would be nice to play again with a lot of players.
