Haha it's cause the two expansions are connected! (same Player Character) The expansions allow you to port cause people would complain they can't play their main character. Aribeth doesn't recognize you because you are canonically supposed to be a different person.
Why bring all those characters back from OC if there's no real connection to the PC. I mean chances are players who played HotU played OC before right?
I know there's no point debating this but I was hoping some plot items from OC would trigger unique dialog options.
I agree it would have been nice to have a little flexibility in deciding the previous adventures of your HotU character, be it the OC or SoU or none of the above. But no doubt that would have added a lot of extra writing for each of the NPCs recognising you or not, and even more if the decisions you made in the previous campaign impacted their attitude toward you. (I'm not sure if there would also be technical challenges in bringing that information across between campaigns.)
