i believe the NWN Diamond edition on GoG have better sound options, and the ability to enable EAX. here are the options for reference:

the 2D/3D bias doesnt seem to do anything in the Diamond version either. but at least you can choose 5.1 or stereo mode.
Yep, that's what I remember too and it was weird that I could not change those. I thought maybe related. Tweaking the nwn.ini didn't help in any way.
