How to set up a server?
Hey guys, looking for help to set up a server. I did it in the past but don't remember how to =P.

Any guide would be very welcome.

o/

EDIT:

Just go to \steamapps\common\Neverwinter Nights\bin\win32\ and run as admin "nwserver.exe".

If you don't have this .exe, download it here:
https://forums.beamdog.com/discussion/67157/server-download-package-to-tide-you-over-and-also-docker

You can also download it in any other future official source searching on google.

You need to have your IP static and port forward 5121 UDP.

You can contact him here :happy_creep:
Good day, I am using the GSM software and have it setup for NWN:EE. The only issue (I am not a computer or software person) is getting the 10, 5 and 1 minute message to show up on the server. During the countdown the timer will flash "Warning sent" (or something similar) but nothing shows on the server.

Unfortunately because NWN dedicated server software is quite limited at present, there is no way to do that. What you CAN do is send the commands to a Discord server instead.

I setup the webhook, pasted the URL, and checked the 4 boxes when going through guide originally and am having issues with no messages showing up in Discord also.

I can only assume you must have set something up incorrectly, as the Discord integration works (using it myself infact). Assuming that the webhook is correctly set up (would be my first port of call in checking it has access to the server and configured accordingly), does your webhook URL that you posted into Discord look akin to this? : https://discordapp.com/api/webhooks/xxxxx/xxxxx (replacing x's with your specific code of course).

Yes, I used the copy option on discord, BUT I also added "/channel name" at the end since I read it was required from another source. Since you didn't mention it, I removed that portion and logged in with a character and Discord updated with a player logged in. This is a start! Thank you for your help!

Hello Jim, I read your guide, but I leased a server space from vilayer.com and have NO idea how to access the server or get it running. Is there a way to use your program to run the server even though it's hosted through a third party? I've tried their support function to no avail and have no clue what I am doing. I hate to cancel it and try another because I imagine I might end up in same situation! Any ideas?

Not knowing what your provider offers, I cannot be of much use. You would need desktop access to be able to use GSM properly, which I'd imagine most cheap server providers do not allow - and instead opt for bespoke web interfaces and the like to give very limited control over your server.

Gotcha, thanks for the response. I was afraid of that. It gives me a configurable INI file from internet and from what I can tell that is it. I don't see it listed publically and when I attempt to connect direct I get the UDP punch through error, no relay. Have tried port forwarding to no avail either. I'll keep working on it and may just run your program off my other PC and skip the hosting part. Your guide was awesome!

Hey jim, I am trying to follow your guide. I will say I think your server manager has updated as things are not exactly where they say they are in your guide above. I am trying to have steamcmd update NVN:EE, but it keeps saying it fails to install the app because of "no subscription." I have tried logging in anonymously, as people who had this problem have done which fixed it for them, but it not fixing it for me. Any insight into this?

Does the fact that I don't own the game on this account stop me perhaps?

EDIT: You do need a copy of the game, linked to the account you sign into.

Sign in with your steam details instead of anonymously. Certain dedicated server files only work under a registered account and since NWN doesnt even have a seperate appid for the server, you need to download the registered game. You will need to do this once outside of GSM via SteamCMD so that you can enter your Steam Guard Id. Then all will be well.

I see now, thank you! Everything is smooth sailing from here! Is there a place you have to learn more about what the parameters for your command line generator mean exactly?

Glad you got it going. I havent done any write ups on the NWN command-line stuff since I got the information from various other sources anyway. They should be self explanatory.

Hello Jim, I followed your server guide and got my server up and running, so thank you. The only thing is when I turn on Servervault setting via the command line generator I can't join it anymore on the internet. It tells me it couldn't do the UDP punch through etc. If I turn that setting off (allowing local characters) I can then join my server just fine. Any ideas? I host the server and GSM on a separate computer and am joining on my gaming comp so it isn't on the same computer - if this helps.

Glad it was of use to you! That specific problem sounds like something unrelated to GSM though - and something I haven't seen myself before (I have hosted servervault and not seen it too). It may be worth asking a general question to the devs or other players about the servervault command-line, and if there are currently any bugs or workarounds to the problem for the dedicated server client.
