How do I import my retail cd copy of Neverwinter Nights: Diamond to steam?
Hi, I own a retail cd copy of Neverwinter Nights: Diamond edition of the game, but for some reason I can't get it to work on windows 7 & 10, I was really bummed out about it, but then I discovered the games been ported to steam, and so... I was wondering if there is a way I can import my copy of the game to steam?

Dun think it'll work that way, even if you do a custom game import the multiplayer function won't work with those using NWN: Enhanced

May I know what's ur objective in doing so?

If you mean the stuff you had from your old version of the game, its as simple as dragging and dropping all the old stuff (modules, haks, overrides, erf files, etc.) into the new one's folder!
If you mean if there's a way to get the Enhanced version of the game by means of owning the old one... no way to do that, unfortunately.

thats disapointing, when I asked this same question with other old retail cd versions of games I already have that are also on steam, those communities said it was possible?

That is rarely the case. The only one authorized to give Steam keys is the distributor, which in this case is not the same for this version as for the original. I think I've seen it once with Civ 3 or some such, but it was for a limited time. People can add any game to their library but that doesn't make it a Steam version. Hope that clarifies things, if not the answer you were hoping for.

Most definitely not. There is a very limited selection of games that Steam allows you to "import", as you say. If you want NWN on Steam, you need to buy it on Steam. Not to mention the fact that the Diamond Edition has never been available on Steam to buy.

You can set up a shortcut in Steam by adding your old copy to the library, but it will be just that - a shortcut, nothing more.

This might help you get the game working.

Also running the game in Compatiblity Mode, I think XP SP 3 is what it is for Win 7.

I imported diablo into my steam with ease. I laugh at your feeble attempts of failure to meet this challenge.

You mean 'Add a Non-Steam Game'? I don't think that's what they're talking about. They might be talking about using the CD-Keys for NWN1 to get a Steam-activated "Enhanced" version... which I don't think is even possible.

The old, abandoned version of the game is not the same as the EE.

Having the old version doesn’t give a person access to the EE.

the old version used to be on steam up the same time NVN2 was up (yet not in all regions and it dissappeared way faster)

old games are not compatible with steam. Their cd keys never were compatible aswell.
My old diamond edition works perfectly on windows10 though.. just need to update it to 1.69
The Enhanced edition is basically NVN 1.5 its not bioware anymore and therefore you wont get a key if you own the diamond version. Its fully beamdog now that pulls the strings (yet the leaddevelopers are onboard)

If you cant get it to work.. might want to think about buying this version.. over a longer period its more likely to have the majority of the servers aswell. Ppl that play the mp frequently up to this date are more inclined to buy an update to have more catering with new folks anyway.
New ppl likely wont buy the old version with an enhanced edition being there and it not being overly more expensive
