When the EE was released it had some new graphical effects but they make the game run like ♥♥♥♥♥ because the engine is old as ♥♥♥♥, so they are (supposedly) working in a new renderer, they are making the game 64bits and, lets hope, we are going to get with time new models for characters, npc... maybe even monsters.
So, answering your question, the EE is not worth it right now, but probably it will in some time.
Keep in mind, most of the community adventures created for it were made before the Enhanced Edition came out, so I'm not 100% sure they are all compatible, although most of them should be, but if you want to play it safe and you're not a "no Steam, no buy" guy, you might want to consider buying it on GOG.com, where the main game costs slightly more at the moment, but includes the original NWN Diamond edition as well (and the DLCs are currently cheaper, e.g. Darkness Over Daggerford - which is a great campaign - 74% off).
If you're completely unfamiliar with D&D rules, there are some potential confusion points to watch out for, like the fact that by default, agility has no effect on your chance to hit with melee weapons, it's all based on strength (unless you take a feat to allow it and use light weapons).
I just bought it and know nothing about d and D so il tell you how i feel in a few hours. I will also let you know if the guy warning you about performence and models and such, if he was right or not. He gave you an opinion, il give you mine. Its a game from 2002 so lets judge accordingly.
Marks this words, because they are the pure truth.
When beamdog will decides to release his own content that may then be reused by everyone for their modules, i will become a great supporter of this project. For now, the policy of delegating content creation to the community can only inflate the hypertrophic ego of some modders , but it will not revive the most beautiful aspect of this game: the multiplayer.
Just a side note, the last premium module ,Tyrants of the Moonsea, brings new content but are included into an hak and not in the core game. So if i wanted to reuse them i would have to set up a server that requires an hak by the client side.
Is it so difficult for beamdog employees to understand that many administrators have chosen NOT to use hak's for their servers, but only the core game content ? @Julius Borisov can you refer the last part of my message to your work colleagues? Thx.
Really considering buying the bundle on GOG but I am concerned about missing out on updates and the like (such as the upcoming rendering update). Is the GOG version updated along with the Steam version? I know for some games this is not always the case. Also, what about Workshop mods? For someone that owns the GOG version, is there a reliable place such as nexusmods to obtain them?
If a 55% complete module is worth the same as a 100% complete one to you, then by all means download the free version and play it. It's not going anywhere.
The 8186 patch arrived later on gog, while it was already available on steam.
So i presume the same will happen with the next patch.
For what i know the current dev build ,8189, isn't availalbe for GOG customer , while for the custom contents, the mods and all the other stuff i think the only solution for non steam user is nwnvault.org.
Yeah, that can indeed be a problem. I wish I could tell you otherwise, but this is becoming a serious issue for some games on GOG. I'm not up-to-date myself whether this affects NWN:EE or not, but I see the last patch for it on GOG was released in November 2018 (called Update 1.78 over there), so if any new ones have come out since then, GOG is behind. I'm not sure whether such things are the fault of GOG or the publishers, but in the end it doesn't really matter, it's still a huge disadvantage for buyers on GOG. I'm rather irritated myself at the moment that Tyrants of the Moonsea was already released here while there's not even an official mention of it on GOG yet.
As for Tyrants of the Moonsea, it's not on the Beamdog store either. It's kind of weird.
