Is this game worth buying?
I have never played dungeons and dragons. Always wanted to play. Is this game fun to play by yourself?

I find it fun. Some of the terminology assumes that you've played 3.5E (3.5 Edition rules) dungeons and dragons before, as that's the rule-set the game uses, but a long-time friend of mine was able to get into the game just fine without ever playing the pencil-and-paper version before. All the in-game calculations are shown in a bar near the bottom of the screen, so it's easily understood even to D&D newcomers like yourself. I say buy the game, especially since it's really cheap right now.

My only exposure to 3.5 was....reading a D&D 3.5 era book about dragons....I hope it’s enough.I did play a little D&D with some friends online(also DDO and Neverwinter) and know about some of the story and lore having read some of the Forgotten Realms and Dragonlance books.I also have all the old D&D games that got enhanced edition(and one physical I got cheap,Icewind Dale 2) but knowing it’s 5.71$cad is it worth it?

Neverwinter nights was a great game (OC was a little ♥♥♥♥♥ tough). The problem with NWN is that it feels a bit dated so BD promised to enhance the experience with modern graphical effects, better models, etc.

When the EE was released it had some new graphical effects but they make the game run like ♥♥♥♥♥ because the engine is old as ♥♥♥♥, so they are (supposedly) working in a new renderer, they are making the game 64bits and, lets hope, we are going to get with time new models for characters, npc... maybe even monsters.

So, answering your question, the EE is not worth it right now, but probably it will in some time.

At this price it's an absolute steal. What you need to know is that this game is as much - if not more - about the modding community than about the official content. The basic gameplay mechanics and graphics are alright, not the greatest ever, but good, solid and serviceable. The official campaign - although that's a matter of opinion, of course - doesn't have a very good story, IMO, and can a bit grindy and boring. The expansions are a bit better, especially Hordes of the Underdark, but where the game really shines is that it allows ambitious authors to create their own adventures, and there are loads of custom-made campaigns available for free, many of which are of better quality and more fun than the official content. So as far as content for money goes, you really can't beat this offer - because if you like the game, you could continue playing it for years and years with an almost unlimited supply of new stories.

Keep in mind, most of the community adventures created for it were made before the Enhanced Edition came out, so I'm not 100% sure they are all compatible, although most of them should be, but if you want to play it safe and you're not a "no Steam, no buy" guy, you might want to consider buying it on GOG.com, where the main game costs slightly more at the moment, but includes the original NWN Diamond edition as well (and the DLCs are currently cheaper, e.g. Darkness Over Daggerford - which is a great campaign - 74% off).

Small nitpick, technically NWN is based on 3rd edition rules. NWN 2 switched to 3.5. A lot is the same between the two (which is why WoTC called it 3.5, not 4th edition) but there are some significant differences too.

If you're completely unfamiliar with D&D rules, there are some potential confusion points to watch out for, like the fact that by default, agility has no effect on your chance to hit with melee weapons, it's all based on strength (unless you take a feat to allow it and use light weapons).

Marks this words, because they are the pure truth.

When beamdog will decides to release his own content that may then be reused by everyone for their modules, i will become a great supporter of this project. For now, the policy of delegating content creation to the community can only inflate the hypertrophic ego of some modders , but it will not revive the most beautiful aspect of this game: the multiplayer.

Just a side note, the last premium module ,Tyrants of the Moonsea, brings new content but are included into an hak and not in the core game. So if i wanted to reuse them i would have to set up a server that requires an hak by the client side.
Is it so difficult for beamdog employees to understand that many administrators have chosen NOT to use hak's for their servers, but only the core game content ? @Julius Borisov can you refer the last part of my message to your work colleagues? Thx.

Don't buy it's a scam in my opinion, everything was available for free before beamdog put their greedy hands on the franchise. Now they're selling for 10 bucks what was originally free.

Really considering buying the bundle on GOG but I am concerned about missing out on updates and the like (such as the upcoming rendering update). Is the GOG version updated along with the Steam version? I know for some games this is not always the case. Also, what about Workshop mods? For someone that owns the GOG version, is there a reliable place such as nexusmods to obtain them?

I assume you're referring to Tyrants of the Moonsea here. It was originally going to be a premium module, but Atari cancelled the program and so the author released what he had. It's described by the author as "approximately 55% done".

If a 55% complete module is worth the same as a 100% complete one to you, then by all means download the free version and play it. It's not going anywhere.

i bought my copy of nwn_ee on gog.
The 8186 patch arrived later on gog, while it was already available on steam.
So i presume the same will happen with the next patch.

For what i know the current dev build ,8189, isn't availalbe for GOG customer , while for the custom contents, the mods and all the other stuff i think the only solution for non steam user is nwnvault.org.

Yeah, that can indeed be a problem. I wish I could tell you otherwise, but this is becoming a serious issue for some games on GOG. I'm not up-to-date myself whether this affects NWN:EE or not, but I see the last patch for it on GOG was released in November 2018 (called Update 1.78 over there), so if any new ones have come out since then, GOG is behind. I'm not sure whether such things are the fault of GOG or the publishers, but in the end it doesn't really matter, it's still a huge disadvantage for buyers on GOG. I'm rather irritated myself at the moment that Tyrants of the Moonsea was already released here while there's not even an official mention of it on GOG yet.

I don't know if GOG normally makes development builds available. 1.78 is still the latest stable version.

As for Tyrants of the Moonsea, it's not on the Beamdog store either. It's kind of weird.
