pure fighter
Just curious, is going for a pure lvl 40 fighter (fav weapons are Great sword and Long sword) and abandoning the Champion of Torm class wrong? Will i be worse if i'll ever get to battle in PvP? I've just finished the OC and both extensions for the first time, so i'm a total newbie in term of classes and character building.

Champion of Torm is basically the Fighter Class, except:
  • It can't take Weapon Specialization as a bonus feat. It can take Epic Weapon Specialization, if you already have Weapon Specialization from Fighter levels.
  • It doesn't get a bonus feat at level 1 and it doesn't get heavy armor proficiency.
  • It gets a +1 bonus to saves every two levels.
  • It advances Fortitude and Reflexes as high saves as opposed to just Fortitude.
Fighter isn't considered a strong class in NWN (or 3rd Edition D&D for that matter), it's mostly viewed as a way of getting extra martial feats into a character. If you get into PvP with any pure melee, you'll get slaughtered. However, the OCs aren't that difficult and a pure Fighter will do fine. Once you've picked up Weapon Spec, there's really no benefit to taking more Fighter levels over Champion of Torm levels.

No evasion and weapon master is just dumb. So 30'ish fighter is good.

yeah, I mean fighter gets all it really needs in 6 or so levels. 4 before epic, 2 more after epic for epic weapon specialization. theres just so much better things to take.

Now I've never been tempted to PvP. and if I was going to PvP would think the class that can STOP time would have an advantage.

like take fighter to 20 and wizard to 20 and stop time and attack at my leisure?

Wrong?

Not sure there is such a thing. You can mod the game however you want.

PvP you will probably have to make the character on the server so it is not an issue for now.

Play what you want for your first game. There's a whole world of adventures and Persistant Worlds to explore after the OC.

For now, you will get a lot more benefit taking some rogue with the fighter tho. Try rogue on levels 2,7, 12,17 and maximise tumble for more AC. Start with 14 INT and DEX to give yourself access to all the feats (Cos fighter gives you lots of feats, the only reason not mentioned so far for taking more than 4-6 FTR levels in a powerbuild).

Have fun :)

I prefer to mix Fighter with Bard.

a Bard gets improved invisibility at level 10 bard. and +attack/Damage with the bard song.

if all you care about for skills are tumble, bard has that too. 3 levels of bard and 9 preform is +1 attack +2 damage 4 levels of fighter for focus and specialzation is 4 levels of fighter for the same benifit.

So really 4 levels of fighter 3 levels of bard 4 levels of Red Dragon Disciple. (for +4 strength which is +2 attack and damage)
