you get +1 all saves for every 2 points of charisma, (like DEX gives to reflex saves and wis gives to will saves and con gives to fort saves.)

you also get bonuses to turn undead and other paladin abilities which I don't use that much cuz they are once daily smite evil. some people really like their smite though.

Basically lay on hands heals paladin level x charisma modifier Hit points.

I usually leave it at 14, and buff it with aura of glory and eagle's splendor. if I can get the +12 maximum it becomes +8 which makes divine might pretty handy.

Thank you! I dont use smite much cause it seems to fail all the time at Cha 18...

it likely fails because a large amount of enemies in this game aren't actually evil.

you get yourself the saint sword katana or something similiar to check for evil before you smite it.

Smite was clearly designed to be used in conjunction with the Paladin's ability to detect evil at will, but that got left out of NWN for whatever reason.

I was wondering about where my 'detect evil' was. As it is I have usually used smite on characters I assume are evil not, say, bears.

Thanks Red, didn't know such items existed. I've taken greatsword improved critical so... lets see.

paladins eventually around the 14th or 15th level get the holy sword spell, with 14 WIS I think its level 15. 18 WIS is level 14 for a level 4 spell slot. (wear gear that buffs WIS)

such a weapon is short lived but deals divine damage to evil making it obvious.

a paladin really should have a detect evil spell or ability much earlier.

as it stands you need to either take exotic weapon prof, and make the saint sword katana or check the rolls to see if the thing was getting an attack bonus from smiting.

undead are typically evil. most other things like robbers and such are actually neutral.

The old joke is that they left out Detect Evil because having it in Chapter 1 of the OC would have broken the plot in the first 20 minutes. ;)

the papadin's Cha score increases savings rolls and healing from Lay on hands. their magic is still Wisdom bassed So i wouldn't treat them like a helaer class, same with cleric.

the duration of divine shield is based on char.

Hmm... so my first issue is that my wisdom is 12 which means I will most probably need to boost that. Im at level 10 now, havent tried divine shield. Can you restat in this game? I doubt it but no harm asking.

if you wear a necklace with +Wis you can cast spells of those levels. can't do it with temporary buffs per se, but if its coming from your gear it will work.

You get stat buffs every 4 levels. increase it to 14 or use console commands. Using gear won't help with spell levels. You need the base ability to cast spells. It only helps with spells per level remembered.

Have fun :)
