No manual save?
Is there no manual save option? I exited and then resumed, but it took me far back. :(

For a manual save you have to do the manual save. The game does auto save but it overwrites the last save and it screws it up regularly.

Look in Documents folder for Avalanche Studios\ Generation Zero\Saves. Two files in a folder with a lot of numbers.

Copy the two files and paste them in a new folder.

They're talking about a Manual Save function within the game. Going to a menu and clicking on "Save Game". Not fiddling around with save files.

There isn't a manual save. But you can trigger the autosave function with a bunch of things - you just need to keep an eye on the upper right corner of the screen to see the little 'save' hexagon flickering. I'm pretty sure interacting with the storage box does it, maybe crafting benches, too.

You always start in a safehouse when you load up, though.

Fast travel = save !!!

my best way to save is to use the Plunda (Stash Box) a few times. Just open and close a few times. Never had an issue

YES, only way to manually save is to manually do it yourself via Windows copy and paste functions.

I think, or am guessing, a lot of players corrupt their save files because they exit the game while the files are still in process of auto-rewriting. Or the game crashes during that process.
No matter, good practice to do a manual back up of the sav files from time to time and keep the backups on a different drive.

Yeah.. Back up the back ups and then back them up. Then hope none of it gets corrupt.

With all the reported issues with lost or corrupt files in Gen Zero, I copy the two save files to a small 32 GB USB flash drive from time to time, like before an update. I would hate to lose all the hours I have spent in a game because of corruption. At one time there was a story in Gen Zero that was fun to follow but that has long passed.
The other game I have backed up is Horizon Zero Dawn. It has in game save, both auto, quick and manual. There are a lot of files in it's 3 save directories but doesn't take up much space and are easy to just click, copy, paste.

I think you still kinda missed the point there.

What they wanted to know is about saving when they are in the middle of nowhere, without fast-travelling back to a safehouse or something. It has nothing to do with copy-pasting a save-file, that's a different thing entirely.

I know what you mean by posting that, but that's not what the OP wanted to know.

Thanks for explaining that the game saves when fast travelling / using Plunda stash box. That was not at all obvious and needs to be explained in the game.
