Multiplayer with existing Steam friends will work even after Genz development had stopped
About your quote below, does it mean if GenZ is no longer being developed and all server or any semblance of it removed and is pulled off the Steam store, that people who bought the game on Steam can still play multiplayer with friends and find and join others as usual as if nothing had changed.

If this is accurate, this is actually a very good selling point.

And if there are preconditions, what are they?

There are no servers for Generation Zero, it uses Peer 2 peer matchmaking meaning whoever hosts a session acts as the server. This means that once we decide to stop development on GZ, you'll still be able to play it, even with friends.

I am raising this issue in reaction to this thread, as someone interpreted you quote as I mentioned above.

Also, please be more descriptive in your titles so people know what the topic is about :)

Thank you for clarifying. Title will be changed shortly which was written as it was to elicit and discourage response at the same time.

⛔▶️Don'tGetPlayed👱 Thanks for getting that all cleared up.

Wonder how many more times this topic will be brought up caused by the sour grapes of SE?

I believe this topic needs to be pinned for future buyers who looking through those griefing reviews about Second Extinction.
The buyers of Second Extinction are the normal casualties of a failed business or a game in this case but it does not mean they all have to take it sitting down.

The game was released on 13 Oct 2020 and all dev letters and patch notes after that indicated the devs were working on it, which pumped up the confidence of the buyers and players.

Let's see some of their communication materials, which were actually a lot better than GenZero's as it had more details and graphs and illustrations, very convincing.

🟡 Thu, January 27, 2022 (15 months after release): Second Extinction - The Road ahead
Being an Early Access title has helped us immensely – allowing us to listen, adjust, and evolve Second Extinction based on your feedback and input...

🟡 Fri, August 26, 2022: Second Extinction Full Launch Date Reveal
We are beyond excited to finally share this amazing news with you: Second Extinction is leaving Early Access on the 20th of October, 2022 across all platforms: Steam, Epic Games and XBox!
The devs posted an accompanying video preview.

🟡 Fri, October 14, 2022: Full Launch coming in November 2022
... we’ve decided to slightly push back the Full Launch date in order to give our team enough time to address these last obstacles before we launch Second Extinction.
Our efforts are focused on this and we’re aiming for a new release date in November.

🟡 Tue, November 29, 2022: Full Launch is now planned for 2023
After announcing the delay, we went straight to work fixing the remaining issues and giving Second Extinction the last polish before sending it off at Full Launch. We’ve been making great progress, however the road there presented more hurdles than we initially thought.

...

That is why we are now looking at a release date in 2023.

🟡 Mon, October 16, 2023: A Final Update on Second Extinction
...Second Extinction will be removed from sale on storefronts but the game servers will remain active for the time being, allowing everyone who purchased Second Extinction to continue playing solo or with friends. We will eventually take the servers down later next year, but we’ll communicate this well in advance once we have more information...

In almost all cases of business failures, business people will take their best last ditch effort to earn or recoup investment before failing even to the detriment of the consumers.

Second Extinction buyers and players who posted their anger on Generation Zero forum have done Genz buyers and players a favor as their actions lead to clarifying the questions raised on this thread — a blessing in disguise!

So, it's a good thing we don't have this for GZ.
And in any case, the game is IMO finished, and can be played even if it's not updated anymore.

What is to blame for the buyers of SE, is that the company didn't allow the time to migrate the game with p2p servers as GZ. It's a shame to sell a product, to not communicate for a year then suddenly say it's done and there is no way to play anymore.
Unfortunately, we live in a world where money is king.
If they made this decision, it is perhaps to save at least part of the staff and not collapse the whole company.
That said, a little more transparency from publishers/developers or whoever, wouldn't hurt.
And I'm not targeting this studio, that's the case for the vast majority of them. They leave us in the dark and barely apologize.
