I guess I could play HL1 source, but it just ain't the same I tell ya!
EDIT: it's "fps_max" so you won't find it in the m's, lol.
From what I've heard, it's an old engine that doesn't play nice with high fps, and that's why they have it capped. Won't hurt anything to try it.
glhf
Does the game behaves normally or does it glitches?
Wonder if this dude ever came back to check his thread for answers.
1. NPC rotation is inversely framerate dependent, so while running the game at 144fps if an enemy needs to turn to face you it will do so very slowly. (Keep in mind once a vortigaunt has started to charge its attack it will always hit you if you're in view). This also affects scientists and guards who you may need to escort.
2. The speed at which you move objects is reduced. I'm unsure if there are any boxes which become unmoveable because of this. This is less of a problem as you can (for some reason) accelerate most moveable objects to great speed.
Otherwise, there aren't any game breaking bugs. If you run the game at 144 fps you will definitely notice a difference, but if you leave the framerate uncapped, (i.e. getting 500+ fps) the game may lose all challenge as the enemies will be unable to face you in time.
you sir are a legend
If the game/mod you're playing is full of enemies you need to fight - I'd recommend to stick with 60 fps. That will ensure the proper difficulty of your gameplay. If your game/mod has lots of "observing" stuff, almost no fighting, or you're playing a multiplayer mod - you can set your fps to any value you want.
BUT be aware that if you're hosting games with bots, then setting high fps can also break bots. That is absolutely true for mods like The Specialists or Vampire Slayer.
