Can't advance in the first level of the game

I'm at the Black Mesa facility and I have the hazard suit and battery but the door to the test chamber tells me access denied and neither the guard or scientist will open it for me. After watching a video the guard is supposed to open the door for me but that isn't triggering. I've followed all the steps in this guide: http://strategywiki.org/wiki/Half-Life/Anomalous_Materials

After following all the steps I still can't get through the door. What should I do?

maybe try pressing E over one of the guards. E is usually the button to activate NPC's btw the NPC interation is horrible so you may need to press it a few times until they do what you want.

I had the same problem. Mine fixed by right-clicking in Steam, going to Properties, then Local Files, then Verify Integrity of Game Cache. A couple of files seemed to have been corrupted.

maybe try restarting campaign verify gamecache too

I found that the security guard will let you through IF: after putting on your suit, getting the items from your locker, and the music starts, you then go to the test chamber entrance. I have also found that the current version of HL-source to have few bugs as played on Steam with Linux (of all things.) I think it is better than the original in that it has more difficulty, more randomness. You can't just "sneak-shoot" everything and hope to make it through easily.
