Half-Life Black Screen at Start Up

I have Windows 7 (64-bit). I just downloaded Half-Life. I opened it up, saw Gordon holding his gun for like 2 seconds and then it went to a black screen. It continues to do that and i have uninstalled it and reinstalled. Also, everytime I close out of it Windows autoomatically says its not working properly.

Any thoughts?

I have the exact same issue with windows 7(64-bit) and uninstalled and reinstalled it as well but i still got the image of gordan holding the gun for two seconds then a black screen and when I tab out it says the half life launcher has stopped working. so if somone could help the two of us now that would be appreciated!

Made things worse for me - but I have AMD graphics, setting all the option in the card to 'use application settings' and turning on all the gameui options under 'video' in game helped though

I am having the same problem too, except I am using a Mac and not Windows. -nobfo did not work either
