Black Mesa is much better than Half-Life 1

I’m sure everyone already knows what Black Mesa is and in case you don’t, it’s full re-imagining of Half-Life 1 that aims to improve both visuals, gameplay, narrative and many more aspects that were lacking in the vanilla game.

Let’s start off by saying that Half-Life 1 is a very bad game, especially by today’s standards. In the industry that now has tens of thousands Triple-A titles that have already re-evaluated all elements and concepts of what a shooter is supposed to be, you have an old game from 1998 with barely anything interesting to offer. Black Mesa aims to fix that, even though it doesn’t succeed entirely.

Half-Life 1 in comparison to Black Mesa is outdated and has to be put into a trash bin, as it’s just not it anymore. Black Mesa, however, takes that old game and improves key elements to at least the standard of games from 2010. If that’s not good enough, then i suppose it’s time to move on to more modern titles, as Black Mesa is really the only thing to offer and is the only worthy take on Half-Life 1.

Black Mesa has:

1. Characters who aren’t just random generic NPCs.

2. Better graphics. Sure graphics still kinda suck, but overall it is an improvement.

3. Level design. Environments are cluttered with more objects and there is simply more to them.

4. Better lightning.

5. Better textures.

6. Better character models.

7. Better gun models.

8. Better narrative.

9. Better length. The game is longer than the vanilla.

10. Better A.I. It doesn’t explode itself or runs around mindlessly, instead, the HL2 A.I had been substantially recoded and marines pose more danger.

11. Better levels. (Except for Xen chapters)

12. Better everything apart from Xen and a bunch of other tiny moments.

As you can see Black Mesa is a better game and is a replacement to Half-Life 1.

1- sorry but black mesa characters are more "npc-like" than half life ones, totally
2- better graphics? MORE ADVANCED graphics maybe, but then it's not better, half life 1 graphics can be appreciated more for his artistic style, remember, "realistic = not better by default", that's not how art works, you think van gogh paintings would be better with realistic style? no, then i prefer half life 1 graphics to black mesa because i like the artistic style more
3- you could've said more interesting things with the level design, you just say something that just... is not that powerful IMO

8- idk about that, maybe? yes, no?...
9- not really, i love black mesa but the lenght is very less solid and more... messed up with xen, but in a good way... though it's still messed up, good way or not
10- yes, true... though some people may prefer the original ai because it's more fun and less frustrating or not fun for some people, so you are right, but it's a bit subjective
11- the atmosphere is gone for most levels to be replaced with a different one, that makes this point really subjective, yeah the levels are done great, the only level i HATE in black mesa and i think it's stupid, is on a rail... why cut off more than half the chapter, literally the chapter that is the center of the game... then xen levels are good in black mesa imo

NO... you are proving that you hate half life 1 for personal reasons, the point is not that black mesa it's better, the point is that you hate half life 1, it's not outdated, it's players that have become more lazy and with more boring tastes, half life 1 has a lot of things to offere that are interesting, you just don't like them... half life 1 is a great game in 2024, it's very fresh and magical... just not for you, and it's ok... but why talking so objectively, you don't like it? perfect... ok, but at least talk SUBJECTIVELY...

lastly, 2 points
1- black mesa can't replace half life in an artistic perspective, just as a product maybe, half life is an original game and you should play it not because you will like it, but because IT'S HISTORY... so even if black mesa is 200% objectively better, half life still dosen't get replaced
2- remember... everything i said, it's not nostalgia, i played half life recently, so... not nostalgia... and not that much fanboysm, even if i've been a bit fanboy, some points i made makes sense anyway...

so, if you like black mesa more, you do you... but please don't speak so objectively with those points, i too speak objectively sometimes, but not with those kind of points like the one you made... those are really weak

Xen is a pinnacle of the original game. While Balck Mesa, effectivly, is a remake without appropriate ending, It's just incomplete. Black Mesa's Xen better not exissted at all. Say about a trash bin...
Best version of the first Half-Life was 1.0.0.15.

Agreed, EZ2 is probably the closest we've gotten so far to Half-Life 2: Episode Three, and I consider it canon for being on-par with the official games.

Hunt Down the Freeman, on the other hand, felt like it was trying way too hard to be a Hideo Kojima-like game without realizing what made his work so special in the first place. It doesn't even fit into the Half-Life universe. I simply couldn't stomach finishing it, leading me to refund the game right before I reached the 2-hour mark.

On a more positive note, Black Mesa and other fan games have a ton of love put into them. You can tell that the people working on them have a ton of appreciation for the series, especially within the attention to detail.
