I Can't Jump High Enough

I was extremely happy when i saw that Valve had finally made Half Life available for Mac! However, I recently downloaded it and I kept being unable to jump ontop of and over things that I really should be able to. For example, in "on a rail" I was unable to use the car for half of the chapter because I couldn't jump over the green boxes to reach the balcony where the controls for the rail car are. And I had to quit playing when I reached "surface tension" because I couldn't jump on top of the fallen tower to climb to the roof. Am I missing something?? Please help! thanks.

Try duck jumping (jump + crouch)

Yeah try duck jumping: just run towards the fallen tower and just before you get there jump, then when in mid air hold the crouch button (ctrl). Or you can do that but just stand in front of the object.

You need to master the crouch jump. It works for me. Play the Hazard Course, it forces you to do it until you can get through.

Man! That was annoying. Another example of a move you only have to use once or twice in the game but are unable to proceed with mastering. I hope game designers rethink nonsense like this.
