Trusty Pack HD mod

Just bringing this to some peoples' attention as not many people seem to know about it.

There is a modder (or modders) that have created HD model and texture packs for Half Life and it's expansions, as well as a couple mods like Sweet Half Life, Azure Sheep, Residual Point and the like. They all look pretty great, and if you know a bit about file names and modding you can make them for other mods and swap out models between the versions too.

So far only Half Life 1 has been done. I tried to get it's texture pack to work in the expansions but couldn't get it to work. Hopefully they do all the textures as well as the already fantastic models.

Well, Black Mesa is more a remake than a HD pack for the original, which these are. Neither is Black Mesa finished, nor does it (and likely never will) contain the expansions or have the number of custom campaigns the original does.

Personally, I also prefer some of these models to Black Mesa's too.

Pretty cool texture pack, howiever I was disappointed to find it doesn't work properly with the retail non-Steam version of the game. Certain weapons and enemies just show with a solid black texture, including Barney's eyes, which was particularly unsettling lol...

The old WON version doesn't support transparency in model textures IIRC, hence the issue. But seriously I don't know why anyone would bother playing the old version nowadays.

Yeah, that's probably what it is.

As far as playing the old version goes, I'm of the opposite mentality; I can't understand how anyone can tolerate the Steam version since it was absolutely butchered with the Linux/steampipe update. My primary reason for going back is the lack of positional audio/EAX, but there are other issues, like the lack of D3D support, general poor performance issues on some setups, glitchy black boxes on textures in your peripheral view when using high FOVs in Xen,etc etc.... so it's just not worth it to me. Retail version takes a simple tweak to enable widescreen resolutions and you're good to go.

Just my opinion of course! To each his own.
