Half Life 1 visuals

Hello, does anyone else have trouble with playing half life on windows 8.1? Whenever I start the game little black lines run from the top to the bottom of the screen and it's all the way zoomed in, making it an issue to access the options screen to try to adjust any video options. Can somebody suggest anything please?

It's a common issue.

Go to your Library, then right-click on Half-Life.

Select Properties, then Launch Options in the first tab.

Write in "-windowed" without the quotes.

Your game should start up in windowed mode. After this you should set your desired settings and see if the game works. If it does, remove the "-windowed" parameter from the launch settings.
